Mesa Verde Student Finalist in 2022 3M Young Scientist Challenge

Mesa Verde student Leanne Fan has been named a 2022 3M Young Scientist Challenge Finalist! 1 of 10 finalists, Leanne submitted an invention that provides a low-cost option to detect and treat mid-ear infections using machine learning and blue light therapy. Her invention could potentially prevent up to 60% of hearing loss in children! Winners will be announced in October.

Valley Elementary Unveils Mosaic Bench Created by Students

Over the spring at Valley Elementary School, more than 40 students in the third to fifth grade created a mosaic bench. The project was largely funded by the Valley PTA with a contribution from the City of Poway. Three Valley PTA volunteers also worked on the bench, which was unveiled last month. The students and volunteers were guided by Thais Gonzalez, a professional mosaic artist from Rainforest Art. (Pomerado News, July 6, 2022, by Angela Brandt)

Westview, Poway Students Win Inaugural Esports League Finals

The weapons on Friday night varied from soccer balls to mallets to fruit. It was the North County Esports Championship. Four teams from local high schools competed, but there was one ultimate champion — Dino Mrakovic.
