Trustee Election Districts

Draft Maps

UPDATE: At its November 9th hearing, the Board selected Map 131 as its preferred map. You can view the PDF of Map 131 here. Map 131 is also now the default map on the interactive map viewer.
Next, Map 131 will go to the County Committee on School District Organization for a TBD hearing and vote.

What do you think of the Draft Maps?
At its October 12th hearing, the Board selected two "focus" maps, #109 and #112, as its preferred maps from the original set of 14 submissions.  Four maps, #115 through #118, were not part of the initial review because they were posted after the October 5th deadline for this hearing. The two focus maps and all new maps that are submitted, processed and posted by November 2nd, will be the focus of discussion at the next Board hearing on November 9th.

The Board of Education wants to know  which map(s) you like or dislike and why, as they consider which one to choose as the final map on November 9th. Note: only #109 and #112 were chosen as focus maps from the first batch (#101-#114), so please limit your comments to #109, #112, and #115 - #131.

For each draft map below, there are links to PDFs of the map and demographic profiles. At the top of the list is also a link to an interactive map that allows you to easily view and compare the maps and zoom in and out to see plan details (even down to the individual house).

Please take the time to look at the focus maps and new maps, and share your thoughts via email at
PowayUSD@NDCresearch.com or in person at the November 9th board meeting at 6pm. As of 12pm Thursday, November 9th, comments can no longer be accepted via email, to give Board members adequate time to receive and read them in advance of the hearing.

You can read the public comments that were submitted.

The Poway Unified School District is asking for your help in planning our new by-district Board of Trustee elections. PUSD is changing the process by which voters select our elected officials. Currently, more than 60 other cities and 150 school districts across the state are being impacted and must implement these changes by the next election cycle.

Beginning in 2018, elections for PUSD school board members will be by-district, instead of the current at-large (also known as district wide) elections in which all voters have the opportunity to make a decision on each seat. This means that all voters now vote for the one board member representing the district where the voter lives once every four years. You can read more background on this change by clicking on this link here at San Diego Union Tribune.

There will be four public hearings to give you the opportunity to provide input on the composition of the districts as well as draft maps of trustee areas.

Public Hearing #1: Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 3:30pm This earlier time is to accommodate those who are unable to attend one of the evening meetings.  SEE PUBLIC HEARING #1 VIDEO
Topic: Solicit input from the public regarding the composition of the districts i.e. trustee areas.

Public Hearing #2: Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 6:00pm

Public Hearing #3: Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 6:00pm
