I also would recommend uh signing up for the newsletter because I'm the newsletter it will provide you with a lot of activities and events that are going on for our kiddos um and the audience we have today um uh how many of you are with uh children that are younger than um Middle School yeah and then how many have Middle High School Great Is there anybody who has a child who's in transition to adulthood you know okay the magazine goes through all the different uh ages from birth through adulthood so there's going to be services that you're going to see throughout okay let's see here 15 people on also oh fantastic they're able to provide feedback into the chat that's terrific I I appreciate that um I how do you move this to the next page sorry about that I'm doing the arrows do I have to press something different okay I got that a lot of times people ask well where can you get the magazine especially for you you those are who are at home and they're at the San Diego Regional Center all the different Regional centers have them there and the regional center coordinators give them to uh the people who are so if you're with San Diego Regional Center that's 1 place to get them they're also in all the local libraries you'll pick 1 up at the library um for Paula we also have them here at the district office so you can pick 1 up here um whenever you'd like you can um also email us if you would like to have a copy delivered or if you're holding an event or a location that you'd like us to send them to first thing I'd like everyone to do um that's here if you have a magazine whether you're at home or here um I put a table on the page I'd like you to go on and uh it's like this for anybody who's at home and it has the um table of content it's a really important part of the magazine I always just tab mine and keep the table there because I come back to it so often and we're going to walk through the magazine today and see the different parts of it um the first part is with the different uh list the different articles so not only do we have 1,350 different resources in the magazine we also have some really wonderful articles um and many times our articles are award-winning uh articles in in here so in here um this is 1 of the Articles this 1 happens to be on autism if you're here in the audience um if you flip over to even the page in front as a wonderful article that was written by a mom it just happens to be here today um so uh there's you know all kinds of articles that you're going to find inside the next section is the blue section so if you have a magazine you'll see that there's a little blue section inside of there and take a look under this blue section whether you're at home or here because you're going to see all the different diagnosis that a child might have and so uh in the magazine you are going to find information including different organizations that support that particular diagnosis for for example you know autism would be in here so all the different diagnoses are in here so that you can find different resources ources and organizations that can really hone in and support whatever needs your child has if next section is the biggest section that's where there's those 1,350 uh it's that green section that's in the magazine and in here if you take a look in the table of contents you'll see the list of all the different types of resources everything from dentists to horseback riding to speech therapy whatever you're looking for you're going to find it here if it's not here then you let us know and we'll get it in there we're constantly looking for different resources um I'm going to share a few of them with you here um on this page here you're going to see you know some different resources so you hear what I'm talking things like ABA therapy um here there's a nice list of camps so a lot of times you're looking for camps for your children and they're San Diego uh magazine has a great Camp section in their magazine every year um these particular camps really focus on specific needs that a child with a disability might have so again this is really honed in on what the needs are that your particular child has um here's you know like the Surfing Madonna different kinds of activities and camps also at the top of the page if you notice there are uh alphabetical listing so you know where you are in the magazine if you're ever just looking for something you could just look across the top so on this particular page we have camps and enrollment and dental health um another very popular section especially last year when uh children started getting social wreck funding is our Recreation section so this is pages long of different opportunities for children who have special needs to be involved with that social wreck Arena um self-determination if you are or you're thinking about doing self-determination here are some facilitators and um uh fmss that uh we've gone through there's a long list of them but for this is an example of why using the magazine is really helpful um when we put together this section we went through every single facilitator that was on the website for San Diego Regional Center and it took us a long time to get through them because there were many of them that are no longer doing it um or they're too full they've stopped doing it all together uh you know the numbers wrong and the same thing with the FMS is some of them are no longer doing it or they weren't taking more people so we go through a lot to make sure that every 1 of the resources in here are correct and um are still available and so like we're getting started now for our next addition we will go through every single 1 of these uh resources to make sure everything is correct that's in there there um like this 1 this is a 1 way that we bring in the community and if there's anyone here who'd like to be involved with this um I know we have 1 mom who was involved with it last year um we have a lot of different companies that send us voice and materials that are good for children who have special needs like 150 of them I think we had 135 last year and we bring them all to 1 location and we have moms we have physical therapist dads um and um uh teachers occupational therapists speech therapists we have them all come for a day and take a look at all of the materials and help us decide which ones they felt were the best ones for uh their that for for children who have special needs and then on this page we list some of them if you go to our website we have a list of more it's just that we could only fit so many on this page oh and again if there's anyone who would like to be part of that we're always looking for moms especially if you have a child under 14 years old and here's another 1 um oh I like this 1 because it shows actually 2 people from pelway uh in our art so the photos that we use we try to get people in the community and I'm totally cool with people sending me photos and um I like this particular page because you're going to see that little boy there he is actually from pawi and Blissful seeds is in Powe too so we sort of like a lot of homegrown stuff we really try our best to keep this in within our community community um and then there's information from San Diego Regional Slayer which we really appreciate because Sandy a regional center really helps support us financially we're a nonprofit so we don't really bring in very much money at all um so when we have have places like San Diego Regional Center that supports us so that they can support the families that they have it's super helpful okay and let's see what I do here okay yeah and um another organization um efrc you're gonna hear from them in just a few minutes we love efrc if you're looking for actual resources um they're a wonderful place to go and they're going to be sharing those Resources with you guys later and um also in here uh we we're listing here so other things that we do uh day of play um some different we have a movie night so there's some activities that we do with um special needs resource Foundation um again if you're on in our newsletter and you don't get a lot of stuff it's just like a newsletter once a month then you'll find out about not just our events going on but you'll find out about other events going on for families who have a child with a disability um oh I also love this picture too those are the that's the the court of um the girls who have disabilities the pageant um and there's also um we usually will have start having a section because we've been asked for this quite a few times is um it was why is this different than mine oh I oh it's not showing both pages um okay let me see here let me move this over okay our acronyms so in here you know if you're ever looking for you know there's all those different acronyms and our next Edition we're going to just really focus on uh academic and School District type acronyms um and we have a special ed teacher who's going to be creating this she's been working on it this year uh so we'll have that um in the next position um here's another article and again a lot of photos of children from the community in fact the photo there with the drum is with um a music therapist that's right here in town and um oh and actually the boy at the piano he lives in Rancho panecito um and then we have a section called shop able so you know am I doing something wrong because everything just kind of like flipping here okay all right shop Abel is a list of all different businesses that are owned and operated by someone with a disability we don't have enough space on this page to show all 47 of the businesses that we have in shop able so you can go online if you're ever looking for a unique gift and it's a great place to get it and another place you have closed by is blissful seeds it's a store that carries different uh products from people with disabilities okay the next section is in the magazine is the purple section you know it's not real big and um but it's very useful for it's not yet when your child starts going through the transition to adulthood and in here we have things that are specific to um uh children who are going through uh transition into adulthood um like if they're looking to maybe carry on go to college or um looking for a Day program this is the place where they would go um social skills groups for you know adults with disabilities which hard to find we have a social skills group within the other section too for anybody who isn't an adult so we have a a a pretty good section there it's boy in the picture here uh he's also from Powe I I hadn't realized how many we had from Powe until I started putting the presentation together um and then we have um oh let's see here yeah so that's that section um the last section The yellow section of the mag magazine is um for Imperial County um the next thing I'd like you to do is at the very front of the magazine um for anybody who's in the room it's the page after the table that looks like this I just wanted to stop here because um on the right hand column you'll see different businesses that help to support us to keep the magazine growing and I always like to support them and you'll see some you know even Qualcomm uh they help support this uh magazine and um and of course San Diego family magazine we could not have this if they weren't um willing to support us in the many ways that they do to uh you know print the magazine and help us to get it out and I think oh if you go online and again with that QR code all you can just put special needs Foundation is San Diego and there's like a little heart on the if you're looking it up uh you'll be able to get all of these resources and as we get new ones the new ones are in there as well so 1 of the things I like about doing it online is say I'm looking for a dentist um that takes children who and that can specialize in children who have disabilities but also um takes me the account for children who have medical services I can just type in dentists and all the dentists will pop up if I'm looking for a speech therapist I put speech in there and all the speech therapists will pop up so it's a really handy to use this when you're online and your searching for something or if you decide to go self-determination you can just put you know facilitator or self-determination and and all the self-determination um items will come up even if it's in there you know somebody who does self-determination and it's in their little um so I wanted to make sure that I mentioned that to everyone and you can see at the very top where it's a special needs resources at the top of the page you click on that and then it'll have San Diego and Imperial County you just click on San Diego there's also an a a little flag that you can click so if there's somebody who has English as a second language it comes in a variety of different languages you just click the flag to that country and it'll go to that language and um yeah oh there it is we circled it here the if wanted it in Spanish online it can be with you know it's in multiple languages and here's the QR code again in case somebody got here late or at home if you just got online a little bit later if you get on this QR encourage people gotcha all right so we are going to welcome Mora and Joe from Exceptional Family Resource Center to talk about their services good morning everyone I'm Joel Laura together we go by modjo um so we're gonna tell you a little bit about our agency um so I'm just going to go ahead and jump in okay can I apply topper okay let me move this thing up so a little bit about our agency um as you can see there we primarily help connect families with resources um information and referrals so that they can have the information needed to make choices on their kids development education and things of that nature all of our services are free and we are staffed by parents just like you all everyone who works at efrc is either the parent or family member of somebody with a disability so we felt those same emotions navigated those same systems dealt with similar conflict and feel perfectly situated to help guide families through that process our services are all free and we not only serve families but we also serve professionals and service providers and Educators as well right so a little bit about us as we mentioned parent Mentor if we use a peer parent Mentor model so none of us are Educators we are not attorneys we are parents providing a peer support model to help guide families through the process our services are person driven so we don't necessarily tell families what to do we support them in reaching the goals that they have for their families um our services are customized and resources so when you have a conversation with 1 of our programs Specialists or someone on our team immediately after that we will send an email with customized resources around the topic they needed so there's no 1 size fits all kind of pamphlet that we give everyone everyone gets a resource that's customized to their need at that particular time Community connections are very important we understand that our children are going to be connected to services for their whole life and as our parents we will likely be part of that team so we want to ensure that we have good communication good partnership skills and that we're able to communicate and facilitate connecting with the community and then finally finally empowerment we want to improve families advocacy skills promote their actions to professionals we know that families that are empowered make stronger relationships Advocate better for their kids gain confidence improve outcomes for their children and are more resilient so bit about me I'll introduce myself uh my name is Joe Williams I'm 1 of the program specialist hi come to this world from I guess like 4 different Vantage points um first when I was 12 my dad had an accident and was left with a little bit of limited Mobility so I was a child of a person with a disability my family is from Cuba my mom didn't speak any English so I kind of grew up interpreting for them at doctor visits SSI visits food stamps all that kind stuff that our family got kind of thrown in after his accident then a few years later uh many years later had a daughter when she was born she had a speech delay so we got that taken care of for the medical model she is a student at Power she goes to Mount Carmel High and uh um now she has a 504 plan for some learning issues and some emotional issues she has going on I myself growing up had ADHD and dyslexia and most recently in 2021 I Had a Brain Injury which happened while I was surfing and me with some memory issues so I say all that to say that I come to this and I've worked in the parent Center movement for the last 20 years first that protection and advocacy in New York then in San Francisco and then now here in San Diego so I come to this work as the child is with disability a parent of somebody with disability an individual with a disability themselves and a professional that's worked in this field for over 20 years and I'll let want to go ahead and introduce yourself and I think you it's not on this is not on hello it's not on so I will use my big girl voice okay okay good but I'm worrying about Linda it does appear on the contract isn't it fun when it is on yeah I guess maybe okay hello I'm Laura and I need a tech assist um so um I am here I was going to mention that Joe also ran a behavior program so he like limited so he also comes as a professional within direct service so he's being shy anyway um let's see well I come to this as a parent so I have 5 children all of them have disabilities um 2 of them are Regional Center clients and they are 31 all the way down to 17 so last time I checked I think we ticked off 7 or 8 of the federal disability categories so that's kind of where I come from um and what else do I want to say that's good enough I think 20 years and she is 1 of the most knowledgeable parents and colleagues that have and then she blushes and we move on so um I do want to point out for those of you in person we have a able Q miniature postcards at the exits that have some of this information um I wanted to talk just a little bit about a unique relationship that the Exceptional Family Resource Center has with Powe unified so we are an option not the only option for alternative dispute resolution and here it is known as partners and resolution and it is a very nice option on the Continuum of ways to resolve disagreements within over your child's education so um please pick up a postcard or have it distributed to you um and just to note it is fast it is again with the free free 999 for the partners and resolution and it is a way of coming together without having to necessarily like become enter an adversarial process so really like looking at that solutions-oriented support okay so if you have questions about that sometimes they're not easy to answer in a big group feel free to approach any of us and we're happy to discuss that okay so behind the scenes at the Exceptional Family Resource Center um Joe I and some of the other program specialists tend to answer a lot of questions about broad resources so not necessarily Limited to disability um but usually like disability adjacent so I wanted to quickly just kind of go through my little icons here and I do have notes because otherwise I talk too much so um answering questions about like reduced fare Paratransit option may not sound important now I promise you as your child becomes an adult how they get from point A to point B becomes a big huge responsibility um next we answer questions about medic CCS which is children or California Children's Services if you don't know um we also cover things like Section 8 housing vouchers um we think about In-Home Supportive Services those are all kind of things that we have information resources and support around support groups thinking about how are you doing self-care that's my little friends all holding hands Circle that was my best icon ever um otherwise we also cover Financial issues so things like supplemental security income that you're not worrying about it now you might worry about it later um also things like callable so that is the A Better Living experience account so if you don't know about that come and talk to us after we also deal with some legal issues so selective service for example most families are like oh my child's disabled they're responsibility to if you have a male child turning 18 you still have to comply with that um things like conservatorships or supported decision-making and then also the let's see the is information so things like Department of Rehabilitation um San Diego Regional Center things like that okay back to jail and efrc has been around since 1990 so we've been around for 35 years helping support families where 1 of the only early start Resource Centers or that is actually the point of entry for California early start so families who have concerns about their child's development if they're under 3 when they call they're going to get through our phone line we'll initiate the process for assessment and then be there to be able to provide so 1-to-1 assistance some coaching some mentoring and kind of guide them through other early start services so that they're the information they need for their child to grow and thrive so we're going to like launch into some of the activities we do um first 1 is parent hours and we Loosely base that on when we were in college and professors office hours so we have a zoom room set up and on 1 week it's from 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on the following week it's from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. so we stagger so the families with different schedules can have the flexibility to attend 1 works for them and on there is usually myself more on another 1 of our colleagues our language access person who was always there to translate from English to Spanish and if anybody lets us know with 72 hours notice that they also have another language need we'll schedule an inter interpreter to be there for that as well and we take all kinds of questions from IEPs ifps itps ipps fbas so we go through your acronym sheet will be very helpful when we go through this presentation in the future but we tend to just sit there and people drop in if somebody needs privacy because it's Zoom we can set up a breakout room and move 1 of the program Specialists on that person into the breakout room or if they want to just discuss it in front of the group because we can learn from each other then we end up doing it that as well then parenting hacks sort of like maybe it was even before Co but there were these like life hacks that were coming out that people were showing you ways to do things so we came up with the idea I think maybe more I came up with the idea of doing these parenting hacks where we're going to figure out like how can we give parents like little tricks about working around certain things so we came up with this idea of doing these short workshops that are usually like 30 to 45 minutes um and then the professional is paired with a parent mentor and they talk about a certain topic and then that parent Mentor kind of gives the parent perspective on how they've made some of that work so we have cataloged those on our YouTube channel and we've done them on like how to be safe around the water in the summer how to get through TSA if you have a kid with a disability um how to manage holiday stress neuro Divergent literature so we have several topics and we've cataloged all those on on our site the next 1 that's coming up is going to be with door and it's called uh let me see from support success how door can help me reach my goals and that'll on October 23rd at 12:00 p.m. so it'll be an afternoon 1 you always tries to skip through books Circle anyway avoiding circles anyway book circle is an activity that we run and really what we're looking for is opportunities for families to come together meet each other find commonalities but most importantly we know there are a variety of support groups out there so this is not going to feel like your standard support group this is going to feel more like we have this thing in common it happens to be like close to disability but it's just really an opportunity for you to do something that is for you so I enjoy reading so this is a book disability visibility by Alice Wong we are now in our fourth year reading 1 essay at a time they are all Standalone so that means that we can take newcomers without feeling like you missed something thing in the past chapter and each 1 covers a different aspect of disability is written by an adult with a different disability things like being deaf in prison something I wouldn't have thought about if I didn't read this book and have that opportunity to discuss it with other people if you're interested we provide the book for free we provide the facilitation we have an AM group and a PM group we meet once a month it is on Zoom no excuses to not try it okay so next steering towards success my husband is now retired Navy so 30 years of wetted wedding and so when I was coming up with a how are we going to talk about education needs education topics um I of course leaned into the nautical things so steering towards success takes a um each topic that I think is part of advocacy as a parent in which I didn't use to be so easy to get along with and so it's kind of like looking back how do I wish I had been when I was new to this to this process and what do I what did I learn along the way and so really it's an opportunity for me to go hey hey pay some attention to the parent concerns that were like your like best helper in terms of setting up an IEP that will address the concerns that you're bringing in okay um so there's 9 different ones they're on Zoom they're free um and they are designed to be a little bit more interactive than your standard like IEP spoonfed here's all the information and definitely again not an attorney so Less on the legal part and more on the like are we all here about our child education transition so I know we had very few folks but maybe we have some online um we wanted to really start to bring people's Focus to those topics of adulthood when I was young I very much did not want to look ahead I was like I have all I can do right here but what we love what we know is that we are really all building toward that Community being a person being an adult contributing to our society right so we have parent hours 1 a month that is specialized for what we call next chapter this is where Joe says she likes books and so either literacy or not anyway so we have 1 coming up it's 1 hour the idea is to give 1 big idea a couple of resources and then kind of have an opportunity to ask questions we have mentors that show up and give kind of the view from the other side if you will and so an opportunity to kind of start to think about what might be coming down the road um the other thing that we've done that's unusual and we'd like to highlight is we have introduced a living options video series this is a 5 they're real short little reels like maybe 2 minutes to 5 minutes covering different topics that have to do with residential placement so if you have a child that is a regional center client who has extensive support needs that may be a consideration or possible placement it is no 1's favorite topic I believe believe me having been through it um but what we found it's like nobody talks about it and so it's very isolating it's very like there's some shame there's some guilt there's some other fun emotions and so this is an opportunity to have parents kind of like sharing those emotions like kind of normalizing like you're not alone you're not a terrible parent it's going to be okay but here's the process here's some things that we wish we knew when we were going through it the first time and you know you're up on that topic you want me to keep going just 2 years oh okay mine on this slide first we're going to switch gears to mindful motion this is 1 of our staff is super into yoga mindfulness you might notice that's probably not me anyway um what we are doing is Cam mining the opportunity to just take a gentle accessible walk with other people again with the family support make some new connections if you're maybe not the most mindful person this is probably exactly for you to try on a practice of self-care for a few minutes take it home try it again in the privacy of your life um but again coming together doing something good for ourselves in terms of moving our bodies connecting with others and again like building some of those strategies in your basket of self-care on the opposite end we have lifting spirits that I want to clarify is an is a glass of iced tea there's laughter in the room not sure if it played well on video um so lifting Spirits is going to be quarterly it is an effort to really bring in folks that maybe are like mindful motion training oh glass of something yes um so it's an opportunity to come together think of it as parent hours with a Twist the different way to get that okay anyway I'll turn it back over to Joe and the first 1 of lifting Spirits is going to be a Ballast Point and that's going to be November 4th November 14th and then we have 1 scheduled for February which is going to be at pesto some of the other things so um we have a support group and collaboration with the Autism Society of San Diego which meets at East Lake Church they meet once a month and it is in Spanish for families have children with autism so they have a pretty vibrant group they and it's great so we try to promote that the 1 of the people from Autism Society and 1 of our staff run the group together um early start together that is like a parent to parent play they they meet at parque De La Cruz and the idea is for parents of youngsters infants toddlers with disabilities to be able to get together build their Community make connections and be able to find support um connect and create so uh to counter Mora's um books or books because I don't like reading because of my dyslexia and I like doing art and I'd say more of a crafter than an artist came up with this idea of doing connect and create where once a quarter we get together and we work on our project um they're usually in our office and we can take them on the road but we do like a Paint and Sip minus the booze where we like walk you through a painting step by step so you can do a painting we've been doing 1 cup flying hearts we've done the shakuri resin boards that you may have seen on Facebook and Instagram as well as uh paint pouring where you pour pour paint on a canvas and you kind of move it around kind of makes kind of interesting patterns and artwork it's no need to have any kind of artistic ability everyone ends up making a masterpiece so it's actually great and the F next 1 we have coming up is on the third 15 and Imperial Valley and then we have 1 in January it states not nailed down yet but it'll be at our offices which are 63 67 Alvarado we're on San Diego State University's campus so we are involved in a lot of conferences um so first 1 I'd like to highlight because it's the 1 that's coming up rather soon is fairy a partnership and that is a conference opportunity targets Spanish-speaking families it's going to be October 18th it'll be at Otay Ranch High School and there will be keynote several breakout sessions lunch provided and there'll be things on the IEP process sexuality advocating things of that nature and we also are partnering on ivp which is the Imperial Valley parent conference and that's out in Imperial Valley it's in conjunction with several Community Partners and the Imperial County Office of Education where this year going to be able to bring in Paula kluth as our keynote speaker so that's pretty exciting she was a keynote speaker at IEP they last year and had great um response from people who saw her so we figured it would be great if we could bring her out to Imperial Valley and that the folks and parents out there that didn't have access this to come all the way here learn about inclusion and some of the amazing information she has to offer and then IEP day or involved exceptional parent day that's usually every April or May depending on the hotel we have a nailed on a date but once again it's a keynote it's lunch it's at uh Patrick Center which hotel the Double Tree at Hazard Center um so it's a nice conference I used to organize conferences in San Francisco and it was always like out of high school and it was kind of bare bones and this is nice to provide families and parents with a conference similar to the ones that we all get to go to as Professionals in a hotel with a nice lunch and all these other things so that'll be coming up and I think I'll turn it over to more talk about the other ones oh forgot the DSA Symposium so we are also connected to the Down Syndrome Association of San Diego and they have a symposium historically they had it separate but now it's actually a thread in IEP day where they have their own set of workshops and families have children children with Down Syndrome can get specified specific information that's pertinent to them and their diagnosis here I am back with a transition topics so as um your loved might approach transition age which really happens I have a friend that talks about how transitions start at 2 and I'm a little panicky about 2 I'm a little happier with like 13 or 14 years old um but as you start to look at adult service models leading the charge is a great resource to kind of put in the back of your head and listen for it is a conference that's really all about Adult Services um and it's held annually we also participate in San Diego Regional centers self-determination um conferences they do have 1 in San Diego they have 1 in Imperial Valley um we're affiliated with both and then lastly um the youth leadership Forum this is really for transition age truth um we just had our first Regional um conference this last August which was really fantastic so as your children age or if you have friends that have um children that are kind of in that transition High School to just After High School um keep in mind this opportunity it's about growing leadership um and covering topics of disability at that young adult level sure about your phones scan this QR code this will take you to our YouTube channel where we have catalogued all of those parenting hack workshops we mentioned as well as other workshops we've done some are only in English some are only in Spanish some are in both and we cover all kinds of topics I mentioned some of the other ones but we do have like IEP Basics and we have a beyond the basics how we Edition which actually goes through the P wave forms and so if you are interested you can check those out and every time we do a new workshop we tried to record them and now we have figured out how to record an English and Spanish so everything we've been doing has been now getting posted in both languages so feel free to go through their check out the videos like I said some of the parent hacks are they're like 30 minutes long something can be up to an hour but have fun and we also made another video for Spanish speaking families since we don't necessarily have every video in Spanish that teaches Families how to initiate the closed captioning and then you use the built-in Tools in YouTube to translate those subtitles into different languages so that then at least the subtitles will be in Spanish or whatever language you choose really quickly this weekend is at the San Diego Convention Center if you haven't heard about it yet you have now um there is a huge uh family and vendor event happening so huge huge huge thousands and thousands of people will be there and if you've been like oh my gosh I need to deal with respit I can't find a respit vendor I went on Special Needs resource foundations website and I still couldn't find anything now I'm going to go and I'm going to go to this conference or this Fender fair and find someone okay so it's a really great opportunity they're going to have breakout sessions and most of all in my theme it is free from them yesterday they have 250 vendors signed up they had to turn vendors away so but we'll be there um if you didn't get enough right now let's get more um the other thing we have coming up is Sunday October 26th in conjunction with DSA um there is the Buddy Walk and it is the bootastic right so it's going to be think costumes and really really really it is to support Down syndrome it is not to it's not limited to only families who have Down syndrome so if you're looking for something fun to do it's always a really fun uplifting just great event and we are going to bring back the me lab so it will be a spooky me lab and miab is just sensory activities made big so is that I just like to highlight a couple of the upcoming events that we discussed but um 1 thing to keep in mind is the second thing down steering towards success the next 1 is going to be on reading and understanding assessments that'll be October 2nd and if you scan the QR code that'll take you to our website event calendar and they're all there you just click on the date and time and then you'll be able to register the other 1 to highlight is the next chapter parent hours on employment it's going to be customized versus support employment as I'll reduce yep um want to highlight that also want to highlight fairy a conference which is coming up rather quickly um it is a hundred dollars I think to register for the conference but it is vendor and covered by the regional center as part of the parent conference and I believe they've upped it this year from what used to be 200 to now a thousand dollars per family and now both parents can attend the same conference which before they would only pay for 1 parent to attend the conference so it's great news yeah and then the next parenting hat is going to be on October 23rd it's going to be on the Department of Rehabilitation I mentioned that earlier and then you know save the date for lifting Spirits we'd love to see you all there and stay tuned for more information on the upcoming connecting create which will be the beginning of the new year thank you any questions on the leadership coverage what are the H stands that can you recite the questions yeah so the question is for the youth leadership conference um the regional 1 what are the ages for that so I would say typically it's 6 H6 to about 21 tends to be the age bracket um it is really intended for people who are receiving Department of Rehabilitation student services and eligibility begins at age 16 any other questions are there any online the next question often coping it in the chat you want to ask like just ask if there are any questions if there's any questions them added to the special needs resource Foundation list I love that question because we're always always trying to get more good vendors out there and my guess is if you saw a vendor or anyone here or online that saw a vendor it's going to be someone good that we want to share with other others so all you would need to do is um in the magazine or on our website there is an email address that you can go to if you have the magazine it's actually on a like the second page I think there's a list where it has Sharon uh a picture Sheeran on there and then on there is a list of different people that you can connect you can always collect connect with me uh Linda Mary or there's Michelle there's you know anybody on there we would love to have um the vendor that vendors that you appreciate in our listing so that other families can use them as well so please do and then I have a second question if you had this works you asked a question she answers the question okay my other question is could you talk a little bit more about the Day of Play oh yeah the Day of Play is a a resource day is there anybody here who's been today of play oh my gosh it is like you're going to Disneyland because there's another Mom Emily who is this creative wonderful person and she creates these scenes so there's like the Star Wars area and she has like a huge chabak and you know they and the kids that come with you so it's like a resource Fair where children are encouraged to come because every booth there is doing an activity with them so all of the resources so the speech therapist the ABA therapist the press fit care people they are there doing activities with the children I love it because it really lets you see how those uh people within that organization that you're speaking to are with your children and other children and um it's and then your kids are just having a blast there there's the blow up jumpies and it's a great day um uh to come out and it's uh done not too far from here it's like it usually at the Miramar recenter yeah yeah so um and it's huge and uh I love it and and the exhibitors love it because it really they love it because it gives them an opportunity to connect with uh the families a very different way than if you're just going to an exhibit and it's just you and a professional that you're speaking to um and you know I was really impressed with how many um efrc how many events you have that are together and um you know both online so whatever it is that you need if you want to do something virtual because it's hard for you to get to places um or if you can get there it's so nice when you can meet other families face to face but I do have a question for you um is there are there any and then I'll I'll let see if anybody else has questions but if you answer mine um are there any um events that you have where someone could bring their child with them thank you for that question the question was do you need me to see your face oh why would we want that oh look yay not there now in the presentation they couldn't see yeah because like looking at them they can see you from the August but we can see okay the question was are there any events that dfrc does that you can bring your child along so first 1 that I would say is Buddy Walk yes mindful motion is definitely child adult teenager whoever friendly Grandma I don't care come walk we are happy to have anyone that wants to come Joe help me out on what else we do early start together there is definitely expected to bring your child and then I would say the transition talk 1 that if you have a youngster that is a young adult going into transition that would like to come and would like that information like we're never going to say no children however lifting spirits no children okay 18 and up yeah the connect the connecting create where we do artwork um is for adults it's primarily Geared for parents so that you have some time to do some self-care and have fun but we have had many times where parents showing up with their kids and we've adapted and done the project with them so we as more excited we don't turn anybody away because they come with their child but I think um lifting Spirits might be a different situation but um yeah even is 21 or they're welcome to come if the child is 21 or over they're welcome to come um but yeah so even in a lot of our events we'll make it work quick question I am Crow uh always planning ahead so how often does the next chapter the question is how often does the next chapter meet monthly and we have planned out the exact dates through December and then probably next month we'll do the second half of the term and the topics are already assigned so I can certainly send that to you or hop on anything online 9 nothing this is
