  •   Principal's Welcome Back Letter

Welcome back for the 2021-2022 school year!   This email is being sent to all families who are currently enrolled in Highland Ranch.   I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and spent time enjoying family and friends.  I had a great summer; our family (new baby grandson included) took a trip to Hawaii.  I also had the opportunity to delve into growing as a leader by attending a professional book club investigating how to improve HRES with the learnings from Schooltalk - Rethinking What We Say About - and To - Students Every Day.   I look forward to sharing my learnings and how I will continue to grow as your Principal.

The 2021-2022 school year is an opportunity for Highland Ranch to move forward in our journey in providing the highest quality education for our students, families, and community.  We will continue our positive school culture with No Place for Hate, Character Counts, and Bucket Filling.  We also look forward to all grades adopting a new Social Studies curriculum that celebrates all the contributions made to this great country.

All on campus families will need to complete a Health and Safety Agreement Form  This form will need to be completed for each student attending in-person learning before the start of school on August 18th.

We hosted a Kindergarten Parent Night on Thursday, August 5th at 5:00 p.m. At that time, I gave an overview of school, curriculum, facilities, etc.   Here is the link to that presentation:  Welcome to Highland Ranch  or if you’d like, a short video:  Welcome to Highland Ranch Video  (please note that our front gates are brown, not green as indicated in the video).   If you have any questions after viewing this presentation, please contact me.

    Tuesday - August 17 - TK/K Welcome

TK and Kindergarten students will meet their teachers on Tuesday, August 17th. Kindergarten and TK Back to School Night will be held via zoom on August 17th at 5:00.  Kindergarten parents will be notified on Friday, August 13th, as to who their teacher is so they can plan accordingly:

    Mrs. Brinkley -  11:00

    Mrs. Phaneuf - 12:00

    Mrs. Scurr - 1:00

    Mrs. Valente - 2:00

    Mrs. Morgan (TK) - 3:00

Tuesday - August 17 - Popsicle Posting Party!  Families are invited to come to the playground at staggered intervals to see who their teacher is for next year.  Please plan to attend at these times to decrease the amount of students/parents on campus:

    Last name A-D at 4:00

    Last name E-L at 4:30

    Last name M-R at 5:00

    Last name S-Z at 5:30

Wednesday - August 18 - First Day of School

The big day is August 18th and students in grades first through fifth will receive a phone message from their new teacher welcoming them on August 17th!  School begins at 7:45 and the gates will open at 7:35.  Students will go directly to class - DO NOT DROP YOUR STUDENT OFF BEFORE 7:35 as there is no school supervision before that time.  There are multiple end times for school:

11:45 for Transitional Kindergarten ends at 11:45 (all school year)

12:00 for Kindergarten (through September 28th then ends at 1:45 through the remainder of the year)

1:45 for grades first through fifth (all year - no minimum day)

All students in Transitional Kindergarten,  Kindergarten and First should be walked into campus to the green gates by the office.  Students in grades Second through Fifth may be dropped off in the loop adjacent to Eastbourne (in front of ESS).   Parents/guardians may not accompany their child to the classroom and must park off campus.  Highland Ranch is a closed campus to ensure the health and safety of our students.   Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten and First grade students should be picked up by their parents/guardians at the green gates.  Students in grades Second through Fifth will be dismissed by the double gates on the playground.  If you are picking your second through fifth grade child up in a car after school, you may pick them up at the loop in front of the school or the drop off loop in front of ESS.  You must stay in your car at all times.  Students should enter and exit your car on the passenger side.

Thursday - August 19 - Back to School Zoom

Parents of students in grades first through fifth will have a Back to School Night on Thursday, August 19th with their teachers via Zoom.  Third through Fifth grade will be from 5:00 to 5:45; First and Second grade meetings will be 6:00 to 6:45 p.m.    Links will be provided by your child’s teacher.

That is all for now!   Take a moment to check out HRES Student Handbook.

    All my best,

    Cindy Venolia

    Your Principal
