Mission Statement - "E.S.S. is a bridge between school and home where children are encouraged to learn, create, and explore within their school, community, and world."
Program Overview - This extended-day program expands the excellence of each child's school experience into before and after school. E.S.S. is staffed by highly qualified professionals and trained program assistants. The staff provides for the academic and social needs of children in safe and nurturing environments. There is time, space, encouragement, and support for learning good study habits.
Program History - The E.S.S. program began in 1980 and is now offered in every elementary school in the Poway Unified School District. All children who attend elementary school in the District are eligible to enroll.

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. Students and staff engaged in STEAM make more real-life connections so that school is not a place where you go to learn but instead becomes the entire experience of learning itself. We are always learning, always growing, always experimenting.
Passion Projects are based on the Genius Hour movement that allows students to explore their own passions and encourages creativity in the classroom. It provides students a choice in what they learn during a set period of time during school. They are in charge of picking a topic to learn about and have the opportunity to do the research and become "experts" who later can share their findings with the rest of the classroom.
YOU MATTER is based on the Every Monday Matters education program that believes that every student deserves to understand how much and why they matter to themselves, their family and friends, and the community around them. This is a powerful program for engaging today’s youth in topics and activities that build self and social responsibility. We believe that all people hunger for something better, more fulfilling, more constructive, more human, more significant and more positive. We believe that people want to know they matter, and that’s where you, we, and this curriculum come in.
