Universal Transitional Kindergarten Information Night for Parents

Poway Unified School District will continue to offer Transitional Kindergarten (TK).  For the 2022-2023 school year, the range of birthdays for eligible students has expanded to 9/2/2017-2/2/2018. 

We hosted a Parent Information Night on March 30, 2022 to share more information about the district’s plan to move towards a full 4-year-old TK program by 2025.

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is designed as the first year of a two-year kindergarten program that uses a modified kindergarten curriculum that is age and developmentally appropriate. EC Section 48000 [d].


Beginning with the 2022 - 2023 school year, PUSD will begin our Universal TK phase-in. By 2025-26 PUSD will provide optional TK enrollment to all eligible 4 year olds within the PUSD district.

TK Eligibility  
2021-2022 Turn five between Sept. 2 and Dec. 2
2022-2023 Turn five between Sept. 2 and Feb. 2
2023-2024 Turn five between Sept. 2 and Apr. 2
2024-2025 Turn five between Sept. 2 and Jun. 2
2025-2026 Turn four by Sept. 1
Students who participate in TK will attend school daily, including lunch. Contact your neighborhood school for specific hours. TK students are eligible for Extended Student Services (ESS) for before- and after-school care.
If your child has his/her 5th birthday between September 2nd and February 2nd, 2023, he/she will be enrolled in Transitional Kindergarten.
