We love volunteers at our school sites because they contribute so much time and energy to the students and staff. Here are a few things for volunteers to keep in mind.

TB Testing:

Governor Brown recently signed legislation, Assembly Bill (AB) 1667, affecting how school districts facilitate Tuberculosis (TB) testing.  Effective January 1, 2015, school districts have been directed to replace universal TB testing (traditional ‘stick’ method) with a risk assessment questionnaire.  The following protocol for TB Clearance will now be used:

  • Initial TB risk assessment questionnaire completed along with a PUSD Resource Nurse.
  • If no risk factors identified, the employee or volunteer is given a Clearance Certificate.
  • If risk factors are identified, the Resource Nurse will administer and read the TB skin test.
    • If skin test is negative, Resource Nurse will sign the Clearance Certificate.
  • If skin test is positive, the individual will be directed to see their physician for TB clearance.

This new procedure is based on an assessment of risk strategy.  It is supported by The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Thoracic Society (ATS), the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA), the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the California Conference of Local Health Officers and the California Tuberculosis Controllers Association (CTCA).
PUSD Resource Nurses will be utilizing the TB risk assessment questionnaire at subsequent TB clinics.  Upon request, a traditional examination, including a TB test, may be completed instead of submitting to a TB risk assessment.
AB 1667, in its entirety, can be found on the following website:
Please review the TB Clinic Schedule and if you have further questions about the TB Clinic please call Health Services at (858) 521-2812.   Click HERE for the schedule.

Megan’s Law Background Check: Each volunteer must have a current Megan’s Law Background Check on file with the specific school site office. Volunteers need only fill out one Megan's Law form with the schools listed. Volunteers only need to fill out the Megan’s Law form and be cleared once. You do not need to fill out a new form for each school year. If you have volunteered at another school in PUSD, and wish to make a school site change -- please notify the office and fill out the Transfer Request for Megan's Law.

Volunteer Code of Conduct: Volunteers must have a Volunteer Code of Conduct form on file at each site they volunteer at.

RETIREES:  Seniors Helping Our Kids (SHOK) is an all-volunteer organization that trains and places nearly 200 retirees a year in PUSD schools. Most serve as one-on-one reading tutors for children in grade 1-3, following the OASIS Tutoring program. Others are classroom or library helpers. If you are a retiree and interested in this opportunity, check out http://www.SHOKprogram.org. They will help you get all the paperwork together to participate as a volunteer.

If you plan to drive on a field trip: You will need to fill out this form: Private Vehicle Transportation for Student's off-site Student Experience. (pdf file)

PLEASE NOTE: Individuals will not be allowed to volunteer until the office has received notice of the Megan's Law clearance and results of the TB test.

When You Come To Volunteer Please Sign In & Out: All volunteers at each of our school sites are required to sign in at the office and put on a nametag. You must do this each day you volunteer. This helps us identify people on our campus and helps keep our kids safe. Thank you for remembering to do this!

Thank you for your willingness to volunteer and
for your support of our school!
