AFTER SCHOOL

The After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program provides FREE supervised activities until 6:00 PM for students at five (5) district middle schools, every day that school is in session during the regular school year.

After School Activities are also available after summer school at two (2) middle schools, with pick-up time varying by site.

Due to high demand, the ASES Program is available to students on a first-come, first-served basis.  There is a limit to the number of students who can be served.  Be sure to sign up at the beginning of each school year!

The ASES Program provides a fun, safe, stimulating environment for studentsStudies show that participation in the ASES Program increases students’ attachment to their schools, improves test scores, and keeps kids out of trouble.

Activities vary by school, but each program includes these components:

HOMEWORK TIME:  Students have the opportunity to complete their homework, with supervision and assistance from teachers and trained staff.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES:  Some schools offer dance or drama, others offer crafts, but all have fun classes and activities designed to explore learning opportunities that may not be available during the school day.

SPORTS AND GAMES:  Every school has an intramural sports program, open to all students after school.  For those not interested in organized sports, outdoor games and activities provide an outlet for all that middle school energy!

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES: Each site program is staffed by trained personnel who relate well to middle-school students.  Through directed activities, the staff provides a safe, fun, and social environment.  Activities are designed to appeal to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders while encouraging them to socialize with one another as well as adults.

 BEFORE SCHOOL

Before-school programs are offered at Bernardo Heights, Black Mountain, Meadowbrook, Mesa Verde, and Twin Peaks Middle Schools.  The programs begin at 6:00 AM (Black Mountain and Meadowbrook), 6:30 AM (Twin Peaks), and 7:00 AM (Bernardo Heights and Mesa Verde) on each day that school is in session.

The programs vary by school, but each site offers sports activities and library access.

The Before School program is supervised by school staff and provides a safe environment for students before the school day begins.
