Gifted and
Talented Education (GATE)
Gifted children are
those who are exceptional due to their markedly greater than average
cognitive potential or ability, and whose exceptionality engenders
special educational needs that are not likely to be adequately met
through the regular core curriculum. They require a modified,
differentiated curriculum in order to ensure their school growth and
success.
The purpose of GATE
services in the PUSD is to identify and motivate highly able
students to realize their full potential. The district seeks to
formally identify and serve students whose cognitive aptitude is
determined to be significantly beyond the level of their
peers. Their academic achievement may or may not be
commensurate with their ability at the time of identification.
Differentiated Instruction and other services ensure that identified
students achieve at levels commensurate with their abilities.
The request submission window for the
March 28, 2009 GATE test is
December 15, 2008 - February 23, 2009.
