Abstract

The PUSD White Paper (policy paper) on Time and Learning is an analysis of both the Time and Learning Literature Review and the Teacher Discussions Findings, conducted during the school year 2001-2002. The intent of this document is to provide research-based information to students, parents, teachers, policy makers, and community members in the Poway Unified School District for dialog regarding how to restructure time to enhance student learning. This report identifies three key time-related issues: (1) Schools should be structured around learning instead of time, (2) If students are to meet or exceed the Poway Unified Standards, students will need more focused and uninterrupted academic time, and (3) Allocation of more professional time is needed for students to meet or exceed the Poway Unified School District Standards and recommendations to address these issues.
