Determining your grade

The most common application of using an Arithmetic Weighted Mean is the way your grades in this class are computed. So here's a chance to learn about your grade while learning how your grade gets determined. If you know this, then you should be able to keep track of your progress all semester long.

Step 1: Find your Grade Print out from the progress report section of mr. M's web page.

Your grade report should look like this:

Steve Middleton                                                                                          September 25, 2002

Poway Unified School District                                                                               Fall Semester

Step 2: How to Compute the Overall Grade - List all the categories and their appropriate weights. Multiply the Summary Percentage you received for the category by the weight. The product of these two items is called the grade points. When ALL of the categories are completed, then the "total Grade Points possible" would be 100, so your grade at that time is the sum of your grade points, but when the year is partially completed, you must divide the total of your grade points by the total weight computed thus far. The example below shows a grade computed when only three of the standards have been assessed.
