Welcome to the world of clay!  As your ceramics teacher, I am looking forward to introducing you to a wonderful experience involving a variety of ceramic techniques and vocabulary.  Because ceramics is fine art, you will become familiar with the language of art, known as the elements and principles of art and design. You will use this language to communicate your ideas through studio projects in clay.  There will also be drawing expectations that will help you develop your assignment ideas as well as respond to your finished projects.

In order for you to be successful in this class you must agree to the following expectations.

  1. Come to class on time; a strict tardy policy is enforced (on back of this form).

  1. Be on task at all times. (Do not use this class as a “study hall” for other classes unless you have completed all your ceramic obligations and have time to spare in this class.  NEVER be unconstructive with your time;
  1. Always show respect, kindness, and courtesy toward others and their projects.  (Do not handle a project that does not belong to you unless you have permission.)

  1. Respect the classroom furniture and supplies and do your share of clean up.
  1. No food, phones, or electronic devices of any kind in class.  Water and beverages with lids are allowed.

  1. There is to be no references to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex, or gangs in either the projects or conversation.
  1. Work in your assigned seat only.

  1. Be in dress code; I enforce it.
  1. Absolutely no clay throwing.  Clay throwing warrants three one-hour after school working detentions for the first offenseThe second offense will result in written work for the entire rest of the semester.

  1. After clean up, wait for the bell at your seat, not at the door.
