Introduction

You have been captured by a ferocious group of barbarian invaders.  Although they killed most of your family and neighbors, they have spared you.  They have granted you the opportunity to live and work with them because they believe you are a strong, resourceful human who knows how to write...a valuable tool.  You must prove your worth.  They want you to work and travel with them through rocky waters and document their lives so that they will go down in history as fierce, brave warriors.   They are ...THE VIKINGS!!!

The clan you are living with is planning an invasion.  Follow the sites below to find the information the Chief Viking Warrior (Miss Korvink) has asked you to find.  Create an invasion plan complete with Viking ship, specific sites to invade, and what you plan on looting.  Include a journal noting what you left behind at the site, and any problems you encountered on the trip.

Step 1 -  Who were the Vikings?

Task:  Begin searching this site to answer the following questions on a separate sheet of paper before you move on:

  1. The Viking invasions were different than others because it was an invasion of the ________________ ______ _____________ __________ _____________ __________.
  2. Victims of the Vikings were usually what sex?
  3. Who would be in the camp of a Viking raiding group?
  4. Since ancient church centers were the only places which kept chronicles, many stated that the Vikings were raiders and pillagers.  What new information do we have about them that challenges this theory?

Step 2 - They arrived in Longships.

Click Viking Voyage.  Then click Enhanced Site.  Once you are in, do the following:

Task:   Search around and gather information about Viking ships.  Plan what your ship will look like.  Draw it on your project and label the parts.

Task:   Voyage around and choose two of the listed sites under the Smithsonian Natural History Museum site.  Read the information about them and add facts about each one to your project.  From this site, also plan your site of choice for invasion.

Step 3 - Exploring Viking Villages

Task:

Step 4 - Artifacts the Vikings left behind

Task:  Scroll down to where it says Artifacts Discovered at L'Anse aux Meadows and research the artifacts that have been found there.  Based on what you read, choose two artifacts and write a short diary entry telling us how you left them behind and what you use them for.

Step 5 - Games and Animations

Task:  Have fun and learn something while you are playing the games
