BEFORE WRITING:*Keep in mind the following questions
while you are doing research on the Internet:
- How can a religion grow?
Brainstorm with your teammates about this topic.
- Based on what you have seen, why do you think someone may
want
to convert to Islam? (one of the ways a religion grows quickly is by
conversion)
- What are some stereotypes that people
have about Islam? Remember that a stereotype is an over generalized,
accepted view about a group of people (examples can be: dumb
jock, computer geek)
- Do the misconceptions about Islam and
Muslims come from the
religion or the culture in which they live? It is
very important to ask yourself if a person does something because of
their religion they follow or because of the culture in which they were raised.
*Please copy the
worksheet and record your findings on it.

DURING WRITING*When
your group has collected all the information necessary, you will each
create a newspaper's front page using Microsoft Publisher. That means that each of you will
be turning in a product. You will need
the following parts in your newspaper:
- Newspaper name
- Headlines for each article
- date published
- informational article(s) -What
new information did you learn about Islam?
- opinion articles-What do you
think is the main reason people convert to Islam? Your entire
group will collaborate on this one article
- pictures with appropriate captions
- advertisement(s)
- puzzle
- out of respect for the beliefs in
the religion of Islam, please no cartoons.
*IMPORTANT
REMINDER
Please remember the
district's academic honesty policy!
It may be tempting to copy and paste parts of your Internet research
into your article, but under no circumstances are you allowed to use
words other than your own, such as articles that are already on the
Internet.
