Choral Program
Poway High School is one of four
high schools in the Poway Unified School District. The choral
program at Poway
High School includes
nearly 200 students. Located about 20 minutes north of San Diego in the
city of Poway. The choral program is organized sequentially and the
students’ levels of knowledge, skills and experience determine
membership. The classes are performance based but also include music
theory.
Poway
choirs consistently receive superior ratings at local, county and national
choral festivals. Poway is recognized as one of the most outstanding
choral organizations in Southern California. Choral students participate in
regional honor choirs and All State Choir.
Choral
Director, Nancy Gray was honored by California Association of Music
Educators with the Choral Educator Award for 2002. She has taught
public school music since 1975 and is active in several professional
organizations. Nancy has served as CMEA section president and ACDA
Honor Choir Chairperson.
Poway is
proud of its musical achievements and leadership within the San Diego
community. Many of our graduates continue to participate in choir
while in college. The philosophy of the Poway Choral Program is to
develop the music literacy of all students’ so they can be life long
participants in a choral group.
