3(a + b) – 5a

I got –2a + 3b by using the descriptive property. That means I took 3 and times it to a and b. The result should be 3a + 3b – 5a.

3a + 3b – 5a

Then I switched 3b and 5a because 3a and 5a has the same letters. So it should be 3a – 5a + 3b.

3a – 5a + 3b

So, now you minus 5a from 3a and that would be –2a + 3b and that would be your answer.

-2a + 3b

I chose those steps because that’s how I was taught and it’s the right step to get the answer… maybe that is the only step, I think?
