Problem: 17 - 15 ÷ 5 · 3 + 2

 

Procedure: 1) First you do order of operations left to right which is 15 ÷  5.

 

17 – (15 ÷ 5) · 3 + 2

 

                    2) Then you do the same step which will be 3 · 3.

 

17 – (3 · 3) + 2

 

                    3) Since subtraction and addition have the same amount of importance in a problem you will work left to right during the problem when it had no multiplication or division.

 

17 – 9 + 2

 

                    4) Then use the same step as in number three.

 

8 + 2

 

                    5) After all the steps you get the answer 10..
