       Minimum of 12.5 hours required.  It may take you a lot longer to complete all of the work and pass this sub-contract. If you really want a good grade and do quality work, this will take you longer than the minimum.  It is recommended that all of the assignments be typed, however, that may be arranged with the homeroom teacher.
 

At the end of this sub-contract you will:

1.    List considerations for planning marriage.
2.    List the advantages of family planning.
3.    Describe the process of fertilization.
4.    Describe the stages of pregnancy.
5.    Define how traits are passed from one generation to another.
6.    Describe genetic disorders
7.    Describe why pre-natal care is important
8.  Describe the female reproductive system and common disorders
9.  Describe the process of menstruation
10.  Describe the male reproductive system  and common disorders
11.  List Sexually Transmitted Diseases, their causes and symptoms.
 
 

Methods of Learning: You will use the Internet, resource texts, engage in activities, create projects, and discuss important learning, both verbally and in writing which deal with Family Life, Human Development, & Heredity.

Evaluation:  This sub-contract is worth 100 points.  In order to earn points, you must complete the various activities satisfactorily including a pre-test and post-test for the sub-contract, and completion of a health notebook (3 ring binder preferred) containing all of your health assignments.
 
The sub-contract is divided into different areas.  You must perform those activities which are asterisked *** and you may choose a variety of activities from those without an asterisk, as long as they fulfill a total of 100 points.

Contraception

** California Senate Bill 2394 (the Russell Bill) requires all public school classes that teach sex education to emphasize the importance of abstinence.  Resource:  Health Adoption Report available through California Department of Education (916-445-1260)

        1.  List all of the different types of contraception.
        2.  Make a list of 5 different places to obtain contraception.  Your list should contain:
            name of the store/office, address, type of contraceptives offered, cost,
            confidentiality, and directions by car or public transportation.

        1.  Create a two-sided  brochure or pamphlet with information on 5 types of
             contraception.  This must look professional.  You must use the computer, colored

5.  Create a brochure with  GUIDELINES for STD Risk Reduction.  You must have at least 8 points.  An example would be :  Limit yourself to one partner who is also limited to you.  Insure that this partner is disease free at the onset of intimacy.  This must be created using colored pencils, markers, or the computer on unlined paper.

6.  Get the HIV Information question sheet from the library.  Answer in detailed outline or paragraph format.

7.  Set up an interview with someone who is HIV positive or has AIDS?  Write out a list of 10 questions about their disease.  Set up a convenient interview time.  Complete your interview  by having them initial your notes.  Complete the assignment by writing out their replies to your 10 questions in extended paragraph format. What is your personal feeling about your interview? (Hint, you may want to use #3 above to get started on your questions.
 

8.  In order to understand AIDS and talk about it intelligently one has to be familiar with the relevant vocabulary .  Define  at least 20 of the following words:  (see the attached table).  NOTE - if you send this to a printer, the table may print on a separate page.
