Project: Students will research one of the following musical artists/groups, a famous athlete or movie star. Students will write:

1. A biography of the artist, group, star, or athlete of their choice
2. A list of 10 songs, Grammies or Academy Awards, or athletic accomplishments (Olympic Golds, Silver or Bronze Awards)
3. Lyrics to the student's favorite song, a list of features movies or television shows featuring that artist and/or albums, or a list of events participate in (i.e. 1998 SuperBowl)
4. A letter written to that artist, star or athlete.

List of Acceptable Artists

Students will demonstrate their ability to use the basic formatting features of Microsoft Word including:

• (All information must be vertically aligned on the page)
• Each item above should be on its own line

Specific Requirements for each of the following pages:

1. Header - Your name and Period number should be placed on the right side of the header - Font size 12
2. Footer - Place the project name on the left, the page number in the center and the date on the right side of the footer - Font size 8

This is to be ONE LONG Document, except for the Title Page.  It is the only document that is to be separate.  Otherwise, join the Biography, Songs/Awards, Letter, Gallery, and Works Cited Page into one long document.

Page 2: The Biography Page.  (Any Quotes that you use, you must use proper MLA citation.)

• Arial or Times New Roman Font
• Page margins set to Top: 0.75" Bottom: 0.75" Right: 0.6" Left: 0.6"
• Include an appropriate title aligned in the center of the page (NO Word ART)
• Include a border, not a page border, at the top of the page under the title (Sample .pdf file, this border does not display)
• Two columns
• A Minimum of three Drop Caps
• A Minimum of three topic dividing lines, no larger than 1.5 width
• Font size 12 for the body text. 
• One picture of the artist no larger than 1.5" x 1.5".
• One page.  The body of text and single picture need to be only one page in length 
• Find and Replace.  Find the name of your celebrity and replace it with the same name, bolded and underlined.  i.e. Max Butler

• Create a two column  table, 11 rows.  Use the eraser to remove the cell division in row one.  
• Use an appropriate Heading for the table  Center the title of the table in row 1.
• Select:
  • Musicians - 10 songs
  • Actors - 10 Grammies, Academy Awards, etc.  or Movies, Plays, etc
  • Athletes - 10 Career Achievements
    • Insert these into a table. 
• Sort the two columns alphabetically
• Turn on Show/Hide
• Highlight text to be sorted

• Tables/A-Z Sort from the Main Toolbar

• Use shading and borders style, color, and change widths for the table (Use the % for your fill color NOT a solid color)

• Two spaces below the table or on a separate page (Ctrl/Enter for a page break):

• 1. Musicians: 
     1. Title of Song using WordArt
     2. Words to the song. Change the color and font of text
  2. Actors
     1. Title of what you are listing using WordArt
     2. 10 Grammies, Academy Awards, etc.  or Movies, Plays, etc - The opposite of what was used above. Change the color and font of text
  3. Athletes
     1. Title of what you are listing using WordArt
     2. List of 10 Career Achievements, team this person has play on, or athletic awards.  The opposite of what was used above.  Change the color and font of text

• Change the font type, color, size, etc.  
• Insert a watermark (washout) behind the text.

• Write a BLOCK FORMATTED Letter to the artist, star or athlete of choice.  BLOCK Format means that all of the text remains on the left side of the paper at the preset margin.
• Include a watermark (washout).  This should NOT be of the celebrity.  It should be something that represents YOU.
• The letter should include:

1. Return address (yours, as in Phyllis Moyer, color, bold, font 14)
2. Date
3. Inside address
4. Salutation
5. Body to include:

   1.  A little bit about yourselves and why you chose that artist

2.  A bulleted  list of the top five songs, top five awards , five achievements that you most admire in the celebrity listed alphabetically or by year, and indented 1" from the left. 

• Customize the bullets.

3.  One question you would like to ask the celebrity

6.  Closing

7.  Signature

Watch your spacing - count - remember the magic numbers are 2 and 4.  If you can't remember how to do it, see the letter to your parents, or the Generic letter.

• Find a minimum of 5 images related to your artist, star, or athlete and put together a "Gallery" of images that represent this individual's life or career.  Make sure to include the web addresses from where you gathered those images in your "Works-Cited Page".
• Create a caption using a callout for each image
• Color the text of the text box
• Shade the background of the textbox.  Use Fill effects, two colors.
• Color the frame around the box, change the style and weight to at least .5
• Use WordArt for you title of the page
