Nutrition Facts 

Instructions:  You will be selecting three different meals of your choice from Nutrition Sheets from three different fast food restaurants.  Then, you will set up a table for each meal and input the Nutrition Information for that meal in the table.  Finally, you will graph the information for that meal. 

Activity A – Sheet 1
  1. Open a new file in Excel
  2. Change the left and right margins for the page to 0.5 inches (file/page setup/margins).
  3. Input the following information just as it appears below starting in cell A1:
  4. Merge and center Percent Daily Value.  Change the font size to 16.  Color the row.
  5. Rows 1 - 9.  Change the row height to 30   Format/Row/Height
  6. Change the alignment of the text Row 3 - Row 9.     Right mouse click, Format Cells, Alignment Horizontal and Vertical,  Center each
  7. Rename Sheet 1 - Activity A, B, C, & D - Right mouse click on the Sheet1 tab at the bottom of your spreadsheet.  Select "Rename" and type in Activity A, B, C, & D

  Activity B  

READ ALL of the INSTRUCTIONS:  FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY.  DON’T GUESS at or ANTICIPATE WHAT IS WANTED.  

  1. On the same spreadsheet that you created above, you will be creating three tables for meals of your choice using the Nutrition Information Sheets from typical fast-food restaurants.  Set your first table up as follows starting the first table in cell A12: ---   That is row 12, after the Percent Daily Value.  Skip down to row 12 now. 

  Do not mix text and numbers in the same cell, such as 5mgs.  Excel can only only add numbers not numbers mixed with text.

  READ CAREFULLY and do exactly what the instructions tell you to do.

  1. Insert formulas to calculate the totals for each of the columns B through E in row 18
  2. Highlight columns A through E and go to Format/Columns/Autofit Selection.
  3. Change the font size of Meal #1 to 16 and merge and center it across cells A through E
  4. Highlight cells A15 through E17 and delete this information (Edit/Clear Contents).  (Yes, this is right, you are making a template.)
  5. Highlight cells A12 through E18
  6. Copy this block of cells (Edit/Copy).
  7. Select cell A22 and paste the copied information (edit/paste).
  8. Select cell A33 and paste the copied information once more (edit paste).
  9. Change the title of the second table to Meal #2
  10. Change the title of the third table to Meal #3
  11. Save this new information (file/save).

  Activity C – File 2 continued

  1. Using the Nutrition tables from the different fast-food restaurants, select a meal that you would purchase from that restaurant (include any drinks, sauces, side dishes, etc.).
  1. Input the information into the table for Meal #1.  If you have more than three items to list in your table, use the Insert/Rows function to add more rows in your table.
  2. Highlight the area for Meal 1 and turn on the borders.  Do the same for Meal 2 and 3.
