Blake's Falcon Watch 2005 Journal

2/28  When I first saw SW and Buckeye I thought it would be fun to study these birds.  I love falcons and peregrine falcons are fast!
3/14  I think the author of Frightful's Mountain, Jean Craighead George, put facts into a novel very well.  There are many facts - such as the eyases need for constant food and the birds had to watch out for man-made dangers.

My favorite scene in Frightful's Mountain was when Bate and Skri are caught.  They are illegally selling falcons and Sam helps apprehend them.  That was good!

3/16  WOW there is the first egg!  I can't wait for the rest and the hatching.
4/12        Ode To Falcons

A flying blur in the air,
Peregrine Falcon with claws that tear,
Nests and scrapes of families past,
Peregrine Falcon in our grasp.
Terminal Tower, flying high,
Falcons named SW and Buckeye,
Peregrine Falcons with wings so true,
Oh these great falcons will entrance you.

4/14  I don't know how they do it!  It is hard for a human to incubate eggs virtually, how can any bird manage to do it for so long?  I wouldn't want to be a falcon (mother).
4/26  I read The Falcon and the Duck tale.  I think the moral of the story is don't be happy and brag in front of your enemies.  You shouldn't brag so much about good things.  For the falcon in the story that meant that although it is a good thing that he caught the duck, he shouldn't brag about it.  For the duck, it meant that he shouldn't be bragging near where his enemy was, or anywhere else for that matter.
