Heavy blowing snow and 23°

3/8   5:00 PM
Nope, not a place for eggs!
With the nasty weather the birds stayed away most of the day today ~ SW stopped by at 5:00 PM but didn't stay longer than 1 minute ...The temperature didn't get out of the 20s all day, with a high of 25° at 2 AM!  There were periods of light snow throughout the day too.

3/9   12:11 PM

3/11   11:38AM

3/11   6:20 PM
Buckeye ~ looks like he is screaming something ... maybe eggs!
Snow off and on during the day and cold temperatures ~ just wondering, can a bird "hold" the eggs and not start laying them until it gets warmer or they feel the time is right?

3/12  9:32 AM
Looks like the nursery is ready ... but still cold ~ 35° at this hour with light snow in the early morning.

3/12   2:12 PM
SW looks like she is listening to something

3/12   5:52 PM
Back is arched, bulge under tail ...
shouldn't be too long....

3/12   6:25 PM
...nothing yet ... but the snow is melting!

3/12   6:46 PM
SW seems to be calling out ....
Will have to wait until morning...

3/13 11:15 AM
Both are hanging around the nest, but still no egg

3/13  11:19 AM
SW still making  the nest ready

3/13  11:41 AM
A definite bulge under tail feathers

3/13  12:31 PM
Can almost see the "brood patch" on SW's chest

3/13  1:48 PM
SW looks like she'd really like to lay that egg ...

3/13  6:30 PM
Still in position

3/13  6:52 PM (lightened)
SW has left the building.

Third day on "egg watch 2005" ~ SW spent most of the day in, or close by, the nest box despite the very cool temperatures in the high 20's to low 30's.  fortunately there was no more falling snow today. Buckeye stopped by for a few visits.  Even though he is not seen on camera too much he is probably close by.  Now that the sun has set we will anxiously await what tomorrow might bring ... or not ...
