Cheerleading Banner

Poway Pop Warner is a sport organization involving boysRenee Cheering and girls ages 5 to 15 years old.  There are 6 divisions of cheer squads with usually two teams per division depending on how many children sign up each year.  What squad a child is put on depends on age and grade in the fall.  A boy or girl does not have to know anything about cheerleading to cheer.  A boy has never cheered for Poway Pop Warner but there is always a first!  The cheer coaches will teach the cheerleaders about football and its rules, as well as cheers, stunts, and teamwork.  A cheerleader must have good grades to cheer and must keep these grades up to continue cheerleading.

A person can call the PPW hotline at (858) 679-8330 to get a cheerleader registration packet.  This packet includes Renee Posing for Cheer1registration dates, an application, and other important information a cheerleader may need.  If this packet does not answer all your questions, please leave a message on the hotline and the Cheerleader Coordinator will call you back right away.

The registration cost is $80.00 for 5 and 6 year old flag cheerleaders and $120.00 for all other cheerleaders ages 7 to 15 years.  The fee includes a turtleneck, skirt and vest rental, pompoms, socks, a trophy, and a yearbook.  At the end of the year, the cheerleader keeps the turtleneck, socks, and pompoms, but returns the skirt and vest.  The cheerleader also has to buy shoes, hair tie, and briefs (if you need a pair) but you get to keep these things.  Every year the shoes and hair tie usually change.

In August, a cheerleader practices 5 days a week for 2 hours each day from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.   All the cheerleadersRenee Posing for Cheer2 practice at the same location so it does not matter what team you are on for carpooling.  When school starts they go down to 3 days a week with games on Saturday.  Games are all over the North County at different times.   After competition, practices go to one day a week unless your team places at competition.

A cheerleader gets to stay in shape, have lots of fun, learn sportsmanship, and learn the game of football.   A cheerleader meets a lot of new people and makes new friends that could last forever.  Cheerleading is a sport and is a great sport to be in!  GO POWAY!
