ATTENTION Help!

  • Give students preferential seating (front of the class) & room to move around and get the “wiggles” out!
  • Provide “fidget toys” to address sensory needs  www.orientaltrading.com (Cheapest price around).
  • Provide study carrel for independent work.
  • Allow students to listen to classical music on headphones while completing seatwork or free reading (drowns out background noise).
  • Put stop signs or quick directions in colored pen on student papers.
  • Remove chair and allow fidgety students to sit on a stabilized therapy ball (students are receiving sensory feedback and are getting the movement that their body needs)  http://www.specialkidszone.com/Product_Level3.asp?ProductID=1030
  • Give students who are prone to “melt-downs” a special area in the classroom where they can access sensory activities such as “hands in macaroni,” bean bags, penny cans, file folders etc.
  • Encourage students to do “heavy work” activities to provide sensory feedback (ex. carry dictionaries to the library, wall push-ups, chair dips, jump on trampoline)
