Mesa Verde Web Design Class

taught by Mr. Greg Ruth

Welcome, to one of Mesa Verde's Web Design classes. This class will provide you with an opportunity to make web pages for the Internet. During this class you will also be expected to make an actual web site for an individual or a firm. There are four goals that need to be met:

1. You will learn a relevant skill for your future.

2.  You will become more educated about websites and what they are.

3.  You will learn the use of Microsoft FrontPage for making web pages.

4.  Time permitting you will learn to work with graphic files.

To accomplish our goals you will need a few daily supplies:

1.  An Internet email address for the purpose of communication between yourself and the teacher. (This email address is not intended for use outside of the classroom) Please print out a copy of this page and have a parent or guardian sign below acknowledging the use of email for this class.

    Parent signature for email address:_________________________________________

    Parent's email address: _____________________________________________

Notation specifically for parents: Once the students are actively involved in designing their pages, they are expected to send me a message that includes a link to the web page they are designing. If you have a need to know what is going on with their work, please have them include you in the CC before sending their messages. When I reply, I will do a "reply to all" so that you are in the loop.

2.  A spiral notebook for recording data throughout the semester.

3.  A pen or pencil.

During this semester you will be required to create many of your own web pages.  As the semester moves on, you will be posting these to the Internet.  You may be assigned to a department of the Mesa Verde website, being responsible for updating and improving these pages.  Depending upon the specific department, you may be expected to work as a team.  You will need to use your email to correspond with me and other teachers on our campus.

We want to emphasize is that we are a team and you are not competing against anyone in this class for a grade.  What you complete for yourself makes your grade what it will be. Many times you will have a lot to offer to the rest of the class including us, please feel free to help other people and suggests ways that we can improve this class.

Thanks,  Mr. Ruth

*1 When it comes to an email address, it is important for the student to have an address that is accessible from the internet, and not just from home. Many of the members in our community have their email service through roadrunner. This service, to the best of my knowledge, does not allow access from general Internet recourses. Yahoo and Hotmail are two providers that will give a person an email address for free and is accessible from anywhere. There are some restrictions with any account. The one restriction that sometimes affects middle school students is regarding age. If you apply and are under the age of 13, there are some special procedures to follow. These can be found at the server site under "Terms of the Service."

*2 The web pages will start out being pages related to the student because that is the easiest information to gather and display. For some, it is important that the actual name not be used. If this is the case for you, please allow your child to use a fictitious name.
