Autobiographical Incident

Overview

Autobiographical Incident is one of the eight types of writing identified by the CAP writing program. It is central to the development of the other writing styles. Autobiographical Incident provides a starting point for the other seven types of writing.

Autobiographical Incident prepares students for expository writing by helping them realize the validity of their own experiences. These experiences can then be used as persuasive support of  their own ideas. Some of the most convincing expository essays are those that draw on personal experience to support and develop generalizations.
