Referrals for GATE Testing
The PUSD is accepting referrals for evaluation for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE). GATE involves instruction for exceptionally able students in grades 3-8 whose cognitive needs may require a modified classroom program to accommodate their learning differences. Teachers and/or parents may make referrals. The following general guidelines may be used as you consider the appropriateness of GATE testing for your child:
1) advanced comprehension and a very fast pace of learning for new concepts
2) a need for complexity and intensity in the learning environment
3) the desire to think deeply shown through the ability to make connections and generalizations across subjects/disciplines
* Please note that achievement test scores (e.g. SAT-9) are not utilized as part of the evaluation criteria for GATE.
