How to set up your notebook for Humanities with Mr. Sykes:
Students need to have each day either-
1.A A 3 ring binder* capable of holding-
Dividers (for at least 4 separate sections)
College ruled lined paper (spiral binders
are fine as long as the student can remove
the pages neatly with no mess, ragged edges or loud
interruptions)
pens, pencils, highlighters and colored
markers, etc. (see supplies list for full list.)
Or
1. B An accordion folder* that has the same
capabilities mentioned above.
Or
1 C *Exceptions [ If you have another system that will fulfill all of the needs served by the two choices mentioned above and will allow the child to be organized and prepared, doesn't disrupt my class, and facilitates your child getting to work immediately, I have no objection it's use in my classroom. I will ask that the student compose and type a short explanation of how this "different system" will allow him/her to succeed in my classroom and ask that it be signed and dated by you and your child. I will need these on file and must have a copy on or before, Mon., 08/29/05
In addition to the above, each student needs to bring -
2. a separate hard cover binder capable of inserting and removing 3 hole punched pages
which will serve as their geog. binder/Study Atlas.
And
3. Each student must have with them (at all times in class) a "free reading" novel (aside from the one currently assigned in our lit. class) that is grade level appropriate and of interest to the student. Parents are encouraged to help their child choose a selection and monitor their efforts. The library website has suggestions, books stores are only too happy to help and I will be happy to guide students toward challenging lit. selections when they meet with me after school to discuss this. Students are required to have a novel with them in all classes (in case they finish their work early) from Tues., 08/30/05 through the end of the school year.
Important Note to parents-
Remember, the history and vocabulary text issued to your child have a twin which resides beneath your child's desk here at school. Please keep your copies of these books at home! I also have endeavored to provide an atlas for each desk but this should never come home. The school library will be selling new copies of this atlas (for students to use where/ as they will) at the end of Oct. to interested students for a modest fee.
**Thank you for helping your child remain focused and organized this year.
Sincerely,
Mr. Sykes
