PHYSICAL FITNESS - THE BASICS

Think of your body as a car. To keep it running in top condition, you must give it fuel and take good care of it! This means eating the proper type and amount of food and exercising on a regular basis.

Exercise helps maintain your body by strengthening the muscles---including your heart, burning off excess calories, and improving your flexibility. Exercising should be fun and done at the appropriate level so you do not get too tired or sore.

Activity: (Should be 2-3 sentences for each question)

1.) Describe your current fitness level.

2.) Explain what exercise means to you.

One of the most important things for you to understand about yourself is that you were born with a specific body type that you cannot change (some people are naturally thin, stocky, tall, short, etc.). You cannot change the size of your bones or your height, can you? But you can change your body by working on things you can improve such as your muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and body composition.

3.) If you could improve on an area with your body, what would it be?
