EARN YOUR LICENSE TO MULTIPLY - 4th Grade

Daily 1 ½ Minute Math Multiplication Speed Tests

Students take a multiplication speed test every day. Everyone begins with the 2 times table and needs to get 100% before moving to the next test. (We assign multiplication practice for homework every day until they pass 12.) After 12, multiplication problems are mixed-up.

Students need to pass 34 tests to receive a “license” to drive a school bus. When anyone reaches this goal we all cheer, and his/her bus is placed on the road to success because s/he has earned a "license to multiply."

After this achievement students begin division timed tests. Students who finish all the multiplication and division tests begin again and attempt to do the same tests in 1 minute. This time successful students receive a “license” to drive a fancy car. They love replacing the school bus with a car on their road to success.

Please help your child with multiplication practice. Practicing can happen in many places such as driving in the car, waiting for appointments etc. We suggest making it a fun activity as your child tries to recall multiplication facts faster and faster. Flash cards are a great help and can easily be homemade or bought.

Multiplication can also be practiced online, but the problems are mixed, so we only suggest using the computer for homework practice once they have passed 12. Check out the links for multiplication practice in Helpful Links.
