Trial will take place on the ________ (lab day). All prep for the trial must be completed outside of class.
Questions that need to be asked by the attorneys, should also be prepared in advance. However, don’t forget to think on your feet.

Trial of John Brown
1. Call the court to order.
2. Opening statements.

3. Prosecution calls first witness.
Ø Cross-examination by defense.
Ø Prosecution continues to go through their witness list.
Break for a short recess.
4. Defense calls their first witness.
Ø Cross-examination by prosecution.
Ø Any redirect by the defense.
Ø Defense goes through their witness list.
5. Closing arguments.
Ø Prosecution.
Ø Defense.
6. Judge then instructs the jury. Bailiff leads the jury outside.
7. Jury convenes to decide the verdict. Bailiff will lead back upon decision.
8. Upon reconvening, the jury will give the bailiff the verdict, who it turn presents it to the judge.
9. Foremen of the jury reads the decision.
10. Judge passes sentence.
11. Execution of sentence. “May god have mercy on his soul.”
