British Policy Chart/Focus Assignment #2
This chart will detail the various British policies & colonial responses enacted following the Seven Years’ War. (Proclamation of 1763 through the Intolerable Acts).

The Bill of Rights/Focus Assignment #3
The importance of the Bill of Rights can not be overstated. For over two hundred years, American citizens have looked to the Bill of Rights as a protection against an abuse of power by the government. Although the interpretation of the Bill of Rights has changed from time to time, the document itself continues to give critical protection to our rights as citizens. This focus assignment will allow you to see the significance of the Bill of Rights and remember the important information located there within.
Directions: You will develop a project that gives a visual representation of the Bill of Rights. The only words that may be used will be to label the Amendments or the provisions included in the particular amendment. How you go about devising your assignment is up to your discretion. Different mediums might include (but are not limited to) film, plays, collages, mosaics, etc.
Be sure to include all of the following:
· Freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly, right to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
· Establishment clause.
· Right to bear arms.
· Quartering of soldiers.
· Unlawful search and seizures.
· Grand jury indictments.
· Eminent domain.
· Self-incrimination.
· Due process of law.
· Double jeopardy.
· Right to an attorney.
· Fair, speedy and public trial by a jury of your peers.
· Confront your accuser.
· Trial by jury in civil cases.
· Cruel and unusual punishment.
· The rights retained by the people.
· Reserved powers of the states.
Please note that there are more bullets than there are amendments in the Bill of Rights. Some amendments carry more than one significant point.

Social Developments during the 1820’s – 1850’s
The assignment:
To develop a presentation to enlighten the class about your chose topic. A significant amount of this material will be on the C 14-16 test, so it is imperative to impart your knowledge in a way that everyone will understand it. Group makeup and size will be decided based upon class numbers.
Be creative--- Options might be PowerPoint presentations, skits, review games, videos, movie clips or a combination of many. Make it interesting and make it meaningful.

2. Early abolitionist movement.
3. Transcendentalist movement.
4. Social reform and reformers (Temperance/mentally ill/education)
5. Women’s Suffrage movement
6. Utopian societies.
7. Religious developments
8. Immigration.
9. American antebellum culture
10. Early American authors (pre-transcendentalist) and artistic movements.
Major points to cover:
1. An explanation (background info) of the “development” you chose. Make sure to include reform leaders, newspapers, organizations etc.
2. Why these developments were important to the growth of the country?
3. Did these developments lead to increased sectionalism? Why or why not? (Were many of them organized or utilized by geographic location?)
4. The relationship to current (modern) attitudes, developments or technology.

The War Between the States
This focus assignment is designed to enhance our knowledge about the American Civil War. Students will prepare a PowerPoint/ Flash presentation on one of the topics listed below.
Guidelines:
· Only one topic per class. First come, first served.
· The presentation should be creative and informative. However, do not drown your audience with data. Your objective is to teach your audience without putting them to sleep.
· Each presentation should be approximately 8-10 minutes in length and have no fewer than five slides. Pictures, graphs, etc., would be an excellent addition to your presentation.
· Project grades will be determined by peer evaluation (with input from me). An example of the form is on the back of this paper.
· Like FA#4, prepare a study guide/notes for each member in class.

Native Americans
The history of the American Indian is one of many facets. Tales of courage and perseverance as well as treachery and moral outrage (on both sides) accentuate our history. As Americans, we have many different views of Native American history. Interestingly enough, most of it is stereotypical and inaccurate. Your textbook relates tales of attacks by Indians. If the Indians killed the Whites, it was a massacre. However, if the Army killed the Indians, it was an attack. Hmmmm. I would like us to get a better look at a few of the Native American tribes of the West. Below is our plan of attack.
