PHS/Civics
TEN DAY ABSENCE RULE
Regular attendance is an important factor for any class. In Civics, a maximum of ten absences is allowed before not being able to drop the lowest test score. The ten absences are defined as any combination of the following:
1. Each day of absence during a regular class (usually Monday, Tuesday and Friday) is ONE day.
2. Each day of absence during a lab-day class (usually Wednesday and Thursday) is TWO days.
3. Each truancy or uncleared absence is TWO days.
4. Time missed due to suspension counts as part of these absences.
5. Two tardies equal ONE day. Please take note that a class arrival with just a few minutes left is considered an absence since little time is available to absorb the lesson of the day.
Exceptions:
1. Time missed from class due to an authorized school activity such as ASB activities, athletics, music presentations, support groups, call slips and similar reasons. Each of these examples should be officially recognized in the form of a pass or office notification.
2. A tardy that is the result of an off-campus event such as a doctor’s or dental appointment, court activity, teacher or staff signed pass and similar reasons.
