There is no program on days that are non school days such as professional growth days.
We do have program on all minimum days.
UPDATES:
November - the after-school program is full and we are not accepting any new students at this time. If you would like to put your name on our waitlist, please email cdonnelly@powayusd.com
Barcodes and scanning - as of October 1, SDCOE requires attendance via barcode. We have scanners set up at multiple locations. Some students are scanning out earlier than the time parents filled in on original registration form. Please understand if we give you additional paperwork to keep their attendance time range up-to-date. (The new attendance system locks a student out after just three times of checking out earlier than indicated on registration from - we will need to get another form completed to reset their attendance if this lock-out occurs.) The barcode program now requires students to stay a minimum of 3 days in a week until at least 4:15. Thank you for your support.
School Year 2009-10
The ASES (After School Safety & Education) Program is free and provides a fun, safe, stimulating environment for students whose parents cannot be home when their children return from school. Studies show that participation in the ASES Program increases students’ attachment to their schools, improves test scores, and keeps kids out of trouble.
We are pleased to offer a free before and after-school program. In accordance with the intent of the state legislation that provides funding for the Poway Unified School District’s After School and Safety Program (ASESP), it is expected that students attend the after-school program every day for the full range of hours offered (2:25-6:00 PM) or a minimum of 3 days in a week until at least 4:15.
The California ASES grant that funds this free program requires families to document any late arrival (after 6:00 AM) in the morning, or early release (before 6:00 PM) in the afternoon. The PUSD policy requires that parents or students document the appropriate reason for late arrival/early release on the daily attendance sheets. The reasons will be posted near the attendance sheets for easy reference.

School rules. We enforce the school rules including the Acceptable Use Agreement for the use of computers and the Internet. One exception is that students are allowed to make and receive cell phone calls before and after school.
Sports. The sports program does not include any “cuts.” Each season typically runs for six weeks. Practices are held M-Th 3:30-4:30. We ask students to attend at least 75% of the practices to participate in the District events.
What do you need to do to enroll your child in the Before and/or After-school Program? Contact Christine Donnelly at 748-0802 x2901 or cdonnelly@powayusd.com. Space in the after-school program is very limited and students must attend a minimum of nine hours per week.
The program is centered in the school library. This means that the library is open until 5:45 PM every school day! Students may work on their homework at a time that works best with their other interests and their individual needs. Occasionally, a student may even use the library the entire time in order to complete a large project. Our goal is to have students go home with their homework completed without sacrificing their involvement in extracurricular activities.
Students who stay after 2:30 must be involved in one of the scheduled activities or with a teacher or staff member. Students may not leave campus and then return unless accompanied by a parent/guardian.
What does your child’s time at the after-school program look like?
What can parents do to help us be successful?
About the coordinator: This is my sixth year as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA). I taught Basic Education at Meadowbrook for nine years before becoming a TOSA. In addition to ASES, I also work with Meadowbrook’s drug awareness program, character education program, and the Student Assistance Team. I integrate all these facets into the program to create a variety of activities. Students get to choose their activities; however, you can certainly suggest to your child to attend one or more of the academic support classes! If you need to contact me, email is preferred. Please keep in mind that receiving phones calls after school is difficult as I spend as much time with the students as possible.
We look forward to working with your child this year!
