Use the text to find information on the following items in the Constitution for articles 4 to 7.  Remember there are always some things that need explaining in class, but you need to see what you can find on your own.  Remember to look in the margins as well as in the document itself.

 

ARTICLE   IV:     Relations Among the States

 

1.      Describe the general agreement between states about honoring laws outside of that state.  For example marriage licenses.

2.      What is extradition?  How does it apply to a criminal wanted in California that is found in Florida?

3.      Before the 13th Amendment was passed, did extradition apply to run away slaves?

4.      How does a territory become a state?  Who oversees territories?

 

 

ARTICLE V:    Amending Process

 

      5 What is an Amendment?   How many of them do we currently have?  How can an amendment be proposed and ratified?

7.        What was the purpose of Article VI?  What did it guarantee?

8.        What is the “supremacy clause”? 

9.        When senators, representatives or the President take an oath of office, what are they swearing to?  Is there any Constitutional requirement for a person holding public office to be a member of a religious group or church?  Why?

 

ARTICLE VII:  Ratification

 

10.    How was the ratification process for the Constitution different from that of the Articles of Confederation?  How many states approved each of these?  Why did the Constitution require less?
