HOMEWORK POLICIES
Dear
Parents,
I feel strongly about the skills and attitudes surrounding
homework and wish to share my thoughts with you.
1. Homework
is your child’s responsibility, not yours.
2. Check
your child’s Bobcat Planner for homework assignments
daily.
3. Homework
is given each night, Monday – Thursday.
It is to be completed and returned the next morning.
I generally do not assign homework over the weekend but occasionally
there may be an assignment or your child will be
involved in a long-term project and may need to work on it during
this time.
4. Independence
in homework for your child does not mean disinterest on your part. It does, however, mean that you should permit your child
to be in charge.
Wait
for your child to ask for help.
Look at the whole assignment with your child if he/she asks you
to.
Have your child ask for help.
Have your child read the directions.
Have your child tell you his/her strategy.
Read his/her product for editing and checking.
Give your child guidance in time management.
5. The homework I plan is in direct correlation to the
activities and concepts introduced in the classroom.
6. I
assume that homework will be completed by your child.
I look for patterns of completion and quality of work. These skills and the attitude your child has toward
homework will only benefit him/her through their formal years of
education.
7. I
expect all work missed due to absence to be made up within a week
of the absence.
I
will be discussing homework in greater detail at Back to
School Night or if you have any questions please call me
at school.
