Athletic/Extra-Curricular Eligibility
To be eligible for participation in
extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, all students in performing
groups, including but not limited to band, chorus,
drama, athletics, and cheerleading, must meet the following academic
requirements:
-
During each grading period, students must attain a 2.0 grade point average in all enrolled courses on a 4.0
scale.
-
Accounting of eligibility will be on the day of
school-wide distribution of grades. At Westview
the grades that will be counted for eligibility are every nine weeks.
-
If students do not attain a 2.0 grade point
average, they may be placed on academic probation. At the end of the
probationary period, students who do not bring their grades up to a 2.0
grade point average, will be ineligible to participate for the following
grading period. Summer grades may be included to improve Spring term grades.
A student may only be placed on probation once
during their freshman year and once during the subsequent three years.
-
All CIF eligibility rules still apply.
-
For the purpose of determining grade point
average, all incompletes shall be computed as F's until the incomplete is
changed to a letter grade. At that point, grade
point average will be recalculated using the grade(s) earned.
-
Students who are absent from school all day
will not be allowed to practice after school and/or not allowed to
participate in any games on that day.
-
Students must attend at least four hours of
class (2 classes) to be able to participate in practice or a contest on that
day.
Participation is contingent upon
satisfactory discipline and attendance records.

Attendance
Procedures
Parent(s)/legal guardian(s) are to contact the student’s homeroom teacher (HR)
in advance of all day absences and early releases for doctor/dentist
appointments. Call the main school number (858-780-2000) well before school
starts and at the prompt, enter the
HR teacher’s four digit extension.
The HR teacher will clear the absence, and when appropriate, prepare an
off-campus pass for the student to leave campus. It is the student’s
responsibility to obtain the pass from their HR teacher prior to leaving campus. Calls made for Tuesday and/or Thursday to clear all day absences or early
releases for doctor/dentist appointments should also be directed to the HR
teacher.
On occasion, a parent/legal guardian leaves a voice message to clear their
student’s absence with the HR teacher and on the same day, receives a
pre-recorded voice message from Westview’s automated “phone dialer” regarding an
uncleared absence that the parent/guardian just called to clear. Please know
that as long as the parent/guardian follows the above mentioned procedure, the
absence in question will be cleared by the HR teacher.
If, for some reason, the absence is not excused in the computer’s attendance
program, you may receive a call/email stating your student will receive
detention if the absence isn’t excused by the following school day. If the
student receives the detention due to school error in not clearing the absence,
please contact the school receptionist for correction at (858) 780-2000 ext 3001.
Any student arriving late to school will proceed directly to their
assigned class.

E-mail Addresses
of Westview Families
Communication is
a key component of Westview’s vision statement and is essential in
creating a connection between your home and Westview.
Westview uses email to disseminate information regarding school
activities, as well as changes in the school days/times, assessment,
scheduling, etc. Teachers also use email as one of their tools in
communicating with you regarding your child. Because this is one of
Westview’s primary means of communicating, it is important that the
email address on file at Westview is one that the parent/guardian
accesses.
Note: If spam blockers are utilized by your Internet Service
Provider or email account provider, you need to put in Westview's
email address (whs@powayusd.com) as a non-spam sender in order to
receive emails from Westview.
It is important to update your email address
as changes occur. Click here
to send an email to inform Westview of your new address (please
include your student’s name and the old email address used).

receives a permanent ID card free of charge.
Students must
carry their ID card with them on campus at all times and at
school-related activities. Any
adult may ask for the ID at any time. Students must present
a current student ID card to use computers and check out
materials from the
library
and for finance office transactions. The ID card is also
necessary for admittance to athletic events, dances, and
school-sponsored activities. Replacement ID cards

Off-Campus Independent Study (OCIS)
Each school site will have the right to enroll students in
independent study for a limited period of time if the
students must be absent under conditions which do not meet
the state requirements for excused absences. Students
requesting independent study for five (5) or more days
should notify the Hub Assistant five (5) days prior to
departure. For extended absences, the Administrative Support
Team should be notified five (5) to ten (10) days prior to
departure. The Administrative Support Team will provide the
student with a contract and assignment sheets for each of
the student's teachers.
The contract must be signed and dated by all parties
prior to the absence. When the student gives the teacher(s) the work
assigned in the agreement, attendance may be claimed for the student for the
days of absence provided that the work is completed by the date specified in
the agreement and the work is equivalent to a full minimum day of attendance
claimed. Note that the OCIS contract contains three dates; the beginning
date of the contract, the ending date of the contract, and the date on which
the work is due ("due date").

required to have a valid parking permit clearly
posted on the driver’s side of the front windshield. Parking without a valid
permit will result in a parking ticket ($40.00). Parking regulations are
strictly enforced.

Tardy
Students
Any student arriving late to school
should proceed directly to their assigned class.
To
respect all staff and fellow classmates, please arrive on
time to each of your classes. Please remember that if you
enter a classroom late, regardless of how quiet you think
you are, it is always a distraction for someone, including
the teacher, and is not in compliance with our six pillars
of character. Students who are constantly tardy to class or
are truant (ditch) will face consequences. The extent of the
consequences will be determined by the number of tardies
and/or truancies.
