Athletic/Extra-Curricular Eligibility
To be eligible for participation in
extra-curricular and co-curricular activities, all students in performing
groups, including but not limited to band, chorus,
drama, athletics, and cheerleading, must meet the following academic
requirements:
1. During each grading period, students must attain a 2.0 grade point average in all enrolled courses on a 4.0
scale.
2. Accounting of eligibility will be on the day of
school-wide distribution of grades. At Westview
the grades that will be counted for eligibility are every nine weeks.
3. If students do not attain a 2.0 grade point
average, they may be placed on academic probation. At the end of the
probationary period, students who do not bring their grades up to a 2.0
grade point average, will be ineligible to participate for the following
grading period. Summer grades may be included to improve Spring term grades.
A student may only be placed on probation once
during their freshman year and once during the subsequent three years.
4. All CIF eligibility rules still apply.
5. For the purpose of determining grade point
average, all incompletes shall be computed as F's until the incomplete is
changed to a letter grade. At that point, grade
point average will be recalculated using the grade(s) earned.
6. Students who are absent from school all day
will not be allowed to practice after school and/or not allowed to
participate in any games on that day.
7. Students must attend at least four hours of
class (2 classes) to be able to participate in practice or a contest on that
day.
Participation is contingent upon
satisfactory discipline and attendance records.

Attendance
Procedures
Attendance at
Westview will be cleared through the Homeroom Advisor. This will
ensure that the attendance procedure is approached from a personal
standpoint rather than by an inanimate system. A parent/guardian
must CALL the Homeroom Advisor within 24 hours of the absence
to clear the absence.
Call the main school number
(858-780-2000) well before school starts and at the prompt, enter
the
HR teacher’s four digit extension.
The HR teacher will clear the absence, and when appropriate, prepare
an off-campus pass for the student to leave campus. It is the
student’s responsibility to obtain the pass from their HR teacher
prior to leaving campus. Calls made for Tuesday and/or Thursday to
clear all day absences or early releases for doctor/dentist
appointments should also be directed to the HR teacher.
However, there
may be times when you leave a message and the absence will not be cleared
due to technical problems or teacher absence. If you receive an
automated message telling you that your child has an unexcused absence,
and you believe the message to be in error because you already left a
message for the teacher, the problem can quickly be resolved by contacting
our attendance secretary at (858) 780-2000 ext 3060.
Any student arriving late to school will proceed directly to their
assigned class.

ID is required for dance entrance
• Purses
and coats may be subject to search
• No
food or drinks may be brought into dance
• Students
are encouraged to stay at the dance until the end
• Once
a student leaves the dance, he or she may not return
School dress
code will be strictly enforced at the door.

Students will
receive a wristband when checking into the dance.
If a student is
found to be dancing in violation of the above guidelines, an
administrator will cut off and keep the wristband as a warning. If
student is found to be dancing inappropriately again and no
wristband is on his or her wrist, the administrator will call the
student’s parents and the student will immediately leave the dance.
If a student is asked to leave a dance, he or she will not be
permitted to attend any of the remaining dances for the remainder of
the school year.
Students must have the
Dance Guidelines
form on file in order to purchase a dance ticket. Dance tickets will
be sold during Wolverine time and lunch in the finance office before
each dance. If a guest pass is needed, a guest application will be
required. Rules and regulations regarding guest passes are explained
on the application.
Once the
Dance Guidelines
form is completed and on file, it is good
for the entire school year.

Email Addresses
of Westview Families
Communication is
a key component of Westview’s vision statement and is essential in
creating a connection between your home and Westview.
Westview uses email to disseminate information regarding school
activities, as well as changes in the school days/times, assessment,
scheduling, etc. Teachers also use email as one of their tools in
communicating with you regarding your child. Because this is one of
Westview’s primary means of communicating, it is important that the
email address on file at Westview is one that the parent/guardian
accesses.
