APRIL 17, 2013 - STAR TESTING 9th -11th GRADERS

Dear Families of 9th – 11th Grade Students,

Starting Monday, April 22nd, Westview students, along with all public school students in the state of California will be participating in the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) program. These assessments form the basis from which every public school in California earns their Academic Performance Index (API).  The API is the primary measure used to rank public schools throughout the state.  Over the last seven years Westview has increased its API each year to our current score of 871.

Over the last two years I have been very impressed with the improvement I have seen campus wide on our assessments. We are on the threshold of joining two other high schools in our area that have already scored above 900 (Canyon Crest Academy & Torrey Pines High School), and I believe this is a score that is in reach of our student body. We are truly lucky to have such an amazing staff that works tirelessly to support all our students. We have a student body that every year continues to push the envelope of academic success. We also know that none of this would be possible without the support of our community. Westview is an outstanding place for learning, and I thank you for all your support. We have set an API goal of 900 for this year, and with your assistance I have no doubt that we can achieve this goal.

This week in homeroom, your student will receive a report of last year’s STAR results detailing their scores. Homeroom teachers will be reviewing these scores with their students, and we will ask our students to share this information with you when they get home. I truly believe that it is important for our students to know how they have done on these exams in the past, and that every student must give their best effort for Westview to meet its goal.

Here are some facts regarding the STAR Exams for Westview:

Every 9th – 11th grade student at Westview receives a score for the STAR exams, even if they choose not to participate in the exams. Scores range from 200 to 1000 and for every score of 200 that we receive it will take seven perfect scores of 1000 in order for us to meet our new API goal of 900. Students test with their homeroom teachers. Testing begins at 8:05 a.m. on testing days. For a complete testing schedule please check the Westview website. Students do not need to worry about the difficulty, or study for these exams. They simply need to do their best.

Thank you, and have a nice evening.

students about the importance of being watchful, both at school and around the
community.

stomach, midriff, breasts, backs, and buttocks areas.
Thank you for helping us to maintain a safe and respectful school campus.
