Team Rules

Please read and understand the rules below, then complete the signature page and return it to Coach Jamal.

I

Philosophy

A

Our team becomes stronger as each of us becomes stronger. Our goal is to become the best athletes that we possibly can.

B

We are only as strong as our weakest link. We do not criticize our teammates. Respect and encourage each other.

C

We are a “class outfit.” Whether we win or lose we do it with dignity and respect our opponents.

D

Being a part of this team is something you will always remember. Work hard and enjoy the competition. There is no better feeling than to know you gave your best effort to a task and achieved success

II

Practice

A

Track & Field practice will begin every week day at 3:30pm. This will give you approximately 20 minutes to dress and report to the track.

B

If you are excessively tardy to practice without a written excuse you will not be allowed to compete in the next meet. You must practice with your teammates to earn the right to compete. Continued tardiness will result in dismissal from the squad.

C

If you miss a practice without a written excuse you will miss the next competition. If you have another unexcused absence you will again miss the next competition. A third violation will result in the dismissal from the squad.

D

If you are going to be absent, call the school and have a note put in Coach Jamal’s box or leave a message on Coach Jamal’s voicemail.

E

We will practice on some Saturdays, holidays and during spring break.

F

Any athlete who is tardy or misses a practice must have a written note from a responsible adult (teacher/administrator/parent).

G

All practices and meets during the week are mandatory. During dual meets all athletes must stay for the entire meet, unless you have cleared it with Coach Jamal. If you cannot make a Saturday meet please let Coach Jamal know in advance.

III

Uniforms & Equipment

A

You will be issued a running top, shorts, and sweats by the school. You are responsible for these items and will reimburse the school if they are lost.

B

You are responsible for any equipment that is checked out to you. This includes pole vault poles, shot puts, etc. You will reimburse the school if any equipment is lost.

C

Take care of all of our equipment as it will be used by many teams in the future.

IV

Transportation

A

We will travel to all dual meets by district buses. ALL ATHLETES are required to ride to and from dual meets in district transportation. You are not allowed to leave the dual meets with your parents, siblings, or friends. All Saturday meets, transportation will not be supplied. The student athlete will have to arrange for transportation to those meets.

B

Respectful behavior on all bus trips is expected. The bus should be left as clean as it was when you got on to it.

C

When we travel the bus driver is in charge and determines what is and is not acceptable on their bus. Any misbehavior on buses is handled by the district administration.

D

Remember, whenever we travel we are representing Westview High School and the Poway Unified School District. Leave a good impression on people.

V

Discipline
(A violation or repeated violation of the rules below will result in dismissal from the Track & Field team)

A

All athletes are expected to show respect to their coaches and teammates at all times.

B

All athletes are expected to participate to their fullest during practice.

C

All injured athletes should first report to their event coach and then check in with the athletic trainer.

D

All athletes are expected to follow the standard behavior rules outlined by the Poway Unified School District.

E

Your behavior outside of the track team is a reflection of us.
ANY
violations of the PUSD disciplinary code are unacceptable.

VI

Fundraising

A

All athletes are asked to contribute to the fundraising efforts.

B

All athletes will be asked to raise at least $150.00.

C

There will be a few different options for each athlete to choose from. If you do not want to sell anything, you can make a $150.00 donation to the track program.
