Head Coach

Kyle Smith Coach
Smith is from Rancho Penasquitos. He attended
Mt.
Carmel High
School where he was a 3-year
varsity player. Coach Smith earned his Bachelors
of Science degree in Kinesiology from San Diego State University
and soon after earned his teaching credential in
physical education. For the last 5 years he has been a
Westview Varsity Assistant. The last 2 years Coach
Smith has also been the JV basketball coach. Last
season Westview JV team finished with a record of
19-6 and won the Valley League with a league record of
11-1.
As Coach Smith enters his first Varsity season this year
he will be only the 2nd
Varsity basketball coach ever at
Westview
High School..
Assistant Coach - Al Coleman
Coach Coleman is from Houston, Texas.
He attended
Alief
Hastings High
School where he was a 4-year
varsity player. He holds school records for career
points, assists and 3-point shots made. Coach Coleman
was named 1st
team All-Texas and All-American honors. Coach
Coleman played at
University
of Texas
and earned a Bachelors of Science degree in
Communications. His senior year he set the Big 12
record for 3 pointers in a game (10), received Big 12
player of the week honors, made the “Most Improved
Player” team for the Big 12 and led his team to the
Sweet 16. After graduating he played 2 years
of pro ball in the states and overseas. For the last 2
years Coach Coleman has coached at Christian Life
Academy. Last season
he took CLA to a second place finish in league and the
schools first playoff win in its history. Although
Coach Coleman has been involved with Westview basketball
through Playfast Athletics and basketball camps for the
last several years, this will be his first year as
Varsity Assistant coach.

Assistant Coach -
Doug Smith
Coach Smith is from Bay Village, Ohio where he played basketball at Bay High School.
He then attended and graduated from
Bowling Green
State University. Coach Smith moved his
family to San
Diego in 1983 and soon became
involved in basketball. He has been coaching
basketball at the youth, club, or high school level in
the Rancho Penasquitos area for 23 years. Coach
Smith was first a varsity assistant at Mt. Carmel High School.
He then joined the Westview Coaching staff as an
assistant during its inaugural season as he now enters
his 8th year with the Wolverines.

JV Coach -
JR Ramirez
Coach Ramirez attended Central High School in
Oregon
where he was a 4 year varsity player. After
graduating, Coach Ramirez played basketball at
Chemeketa Junior College, also in Oregon. He moved his family to San Diego in 2002 and soon
began coaching at Westview. For the last 6 years,
Coach Ramirez has been a Varsity Assistant, JV Head
Coach and Frosh Head Coach at Westview. He also
helps develop middle school aged players in the
Wolverine Basketball Club. Coach Ramirez is
married to his wife Brittany. Together they have 2
children, daughter Mia (4) and Son Gabe ( 2).
Assistant Coach - Steve Fabela Coach
Fabela, attended Charter
Oak High
School in
Covina, class of 1979.
While in High School he started coaching youth
basketball. In 1984 be began coaching at his alma
mater assisting the Frosh and Varsity teams. In 1989 he
left coaching to spend more time raising his growing
family. In 1997 the family moved to
San Diego and later that year he joined the
coaching staff at
Torrey
Pines High
School along with coaching
his sons in youth basketball. In 2004 he founded
and coached the San Diego Swoosh basketball traveling
team. In 2008 he joined the coaching staff at Westview High School
assisting Coach Smith on the JV team. Steve is
married to his wife Gina and they have 3 boys and 1
granddaughter: Johnathan (25), Kevin (20), Ryan (14) and
Jordan Lynn (1 ˝).
Frosh Coach - Minas
Be-Emnet Coach
Be-Emnet attended
Mt.
Carmel High
School where he was a 3-year
varsity player. After graduating, he moved on to
UC Santa Cruz where he played on the basketball team for
4 years. He graduated from UCSC with a Bachelors
of Science degree in
Biology. Afterwards, Coach Be-Emnet moved back to San Diego and soon began coaching. He
has spent 2 years developing young athletes in the
Wolverine basketball program. This will be coach
Be-Emnets first year as the Frosh coach at Westview.
