SUMMER WORK PERMITS
Getting a job can be a very exci
ting
time for students. It might be your first experience at
working or just an opportunity to work more during the summer since
you will be out of school. If you ask any adult, they will
invariably remember their first job. While the minimum wage is
$8.00 per hour now, it was certainly very different for others when
they had their first job. Back in 1974, minimum wage was $2.00 per
hour and that was not even the lowest amount!
Take note that a work permit is always
required if you are between the ages of 14-17 and have not yet
received your diploma. Until school lets out for the summer,
you may obtain a work permit at school.
Click here for information on the process. When summer
comes, we will post information on the Westview website as to where
to go for a work permit.
FAMILY CONNECTION FEATURE: EXPLORE CAREERS
As students look to the future, many will participate in programs
in college or technical schools in their interest area.
Perhaps that's majoring in biology or obtaining training in computer
technology applications. At some point, however, there will be
a time to use all of that knowledge, hopefully to secure employment
in a career. There are many different careers
out in the world, some that are well known and others that you might find by
accident. To assist in the process of learning more about
careers, a vast amount of information is available in Family
Connection. Once you log into your account, click on the
"Careers" tab. You may then explore careers and clusters to learn
more about occupations that are related to each other, type in
specific careers in the search bar or even take an assessment
(personality type or career interest profiler) to determine which
occupations would be matches for you.
For example, if you typed "Physical
Therapist" in the search bar for careers, you will find a listing
for Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants and Physical
Therapist Aides. Under each link is an overview of the
occupation, knowledge and skills needed, tasks a person in the job
would be doing during their workday and how much a person may earn.
In San Diego, a Physical Therapist may earn anywhere from
$62,070-$104,500 annually. Spending some time doing the research now
may help you determine which occupation you will pursue in the
future.

in providing services for upcoming classes. In addition, if
you have been offered scholarships or College Board designations,
you will be invited to participate in our Senior Awards Reception on
June 10th were these accomplishments will be honored.
The questionnaire is now

this may only be completed in the student account. If you do not
know your username or password, please contact
Miss Bloomfield for
assistance. The deadline to
complete the questionnaire is May 20th.
UNSURE WHAT TO DO AFTER GRADUATION?
If you are a senior and are not sure what you will be doing after
graduation or have additional questions, please know there is
