Counseling Announcements
August 27
Dear Parents of Westview High School Students,
The purpose of this message is to inform parents regarding changes to counseling services and to outline some key areas related to student schedules. As you may be aware, one of our counselors, Mrs. Suokko, has moved on to retirement. In her place, we are pleased to announce the addition of Ms. Vanessa Crawford to Hub 2. Please see below for our current counselor and hub breakdown.
Hub 1: Mrs. Hubschmitt
Hub 2: Mrs. Crawford and Mrs. Cudmore
Hub 3: Mrs. Berner
Regarding student schedules, we have had many schedule requests from students for a variety of reasons including wanting other electives, changing teachers, or wanting to switch periods or terms. It is important that students and parents understand that the schedule for this year, as well as staffing, was determined using the course requests chosen by you and your student this past spring. When students request a change upon their return in the fall, many times it cannot be granted for reasons, such as:
- We do not have the staffing to meet the request.
- Class sizes are large and we are unable to overload classes.
- Certain classes cannot be switched because it creates imbalance between the other classes.
Please help your student understand that it is our desire to work with them and accommodate when we can, but that making changes to schedules is much more difficult and restrictive than it has been in the past. If counselors can make the change, we honor the request, but the vast majority of requests at this time can’t be granted.
If your student is requesting a change in their schedule, they can come to the Wolverine Center during Wolverine Time or lunch, and pick up a Program Change Request Form. A list of available courses is posted in the Wolverine Center to assist with course requests. Once your student returns this form, signed by a parent, a counselor will determine if the change can be made. Please note that turning in a request to change a class does not mean that the class will change.
Westview High School is committed to making sure your student has access to the best possible education. We are also committed to helping kids reach their academic goals of being college and career ready when they graduate. As a counseling department, this is our mission, to help students take the courses that will best prepare them for the various post-secondary options. Thank you for your support and cooperation with this process and we look forward to a successful year!
Thank you.

Welcome back Wolverines! We are looking forward to the 2012-2013 school year!
If you are requesting a schedule change, please understand that we are unable to accept requests through email or voicemail. Students must complete a Program Change Request Form. Return the completed form (including parent signature) to the front office as soon as possible. As class availability is determined by student requests made at the end of the last school year, please be aware that many changes will be unlikely due to limited class availability. All students will receive their class schedule on the first day of school. Due to the magnitude of the scheduling process and the opening of the new school year, our Counseling Department appreciates your patience in our response time.
