Web based communication for students and parents. Pertinent
information such as grades, assignments, and contact information
is posted. See

Wolverine website. You will need your student’s identification
number and grid number.

Peer tutors
Students are available who have undergone training in
tutoring their peers in a variety of subject areas.
This no cost tutoring service is scheduled for a mutually
convenient time for the tutor and student. Contact Abbie Davis

Advanced Placement Educational Services
Successful Advanced Placement students are available for no
cost peer tutoring. Services are offered Monday through Thursday
after school in D104 until 4:30. To access these services,
students just need to show up and request help. For more
information contact Mr. Subbiah in D104 or
ssubbiah@powayusd.com.

Wolverine Time
Wolverine Time occurs every Tuesday and Thursday after
first period for twenty-nine minutes. During this time, students
have the opportunity to meet with their instructors regarding
questions or concerns. Teachers may also choose to assign
Wolverine Time for academic assistance. Contact your student’s
teacher for more information.

CAHSEE Review
To best assist those students preparing to pass the
California High School Exit Exam in English Language Arts and/or
Mathematics, CAHSEE review sessions are offered. Typically,
these are available on Saturdays for several weeks before the
CAHSEE is administered. All day CAHSEE “boot camp” is available
the week prior to testing for students who have previously
attempted the exam at least once. Contact your student’s
counselor for more information.

Student Assistance Team (SAT)
Often initiated by parents or teachers with concerns about
the student’s ability to be successful, this team meets to
examine a student’s progress. After discussion, suggestions and
strategies are put into place to help the student. The team
reconvenes several weeks after the initial meeting to monitor
the student’s progress utilizing proposed strategies. Contact

Intervention Assistance Team
Upon recommendation of SAT referral, a team of educators
meets to determine whether or not testing for special education
services should proceed. Contact your student’s

504 Plan
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act prohibits
discrimination based on disability. This law protects students
who have a physical or mental impairment which substantially
limits one or more major life activities. A team of educators
convenes to determine if a student qualifies for a 504 Plan.
Consideration for a 504 Plan is usually preceded by an SAT or
IAT. Contact your student’s

Individual Education Plan
The Individual Education Program Plan (IEP) is a written
plan developed by a team that identifies the student’s academic
goals and the methods to obtain these goals. This team includes
the student, parents, general and special education
professionals, as well as other individuals deemed appropriate.
The school psychologist, in conjunction with the special
education department, determines eligibility for an IEP based
upon the results of academic, cognitive, and/or speech and

Reconnecting Youth
An elective, one semester course taught in small group
context to get students back on track. Participants are students
selected by Mrs. Davis meeting the following criteria: 2.3 GPA
or below and/or below expected credits for grade level.

English Prep
English
Prep is a remedial English program offered to ninth grade
students who have scored below basic/proficient on standardized
English Language Arts tests. This yearlong course focuses on
reading comprehension skills and the writing process. Contact
your student’s counselor for more information.

Advancement Via Individual Determination
(AVID)
AVID is a
college
preparatory
program for students who are academically “in the middle” who
meet two of the following qualifiers: low socio-economic status,
first generation college, and/or between a 2.5-3.5 grade point
average, exhibiting potential to attain acceptance to a four
year university. Contact your student’s counselor for more
information.

Introduction to High School Algebra
This class is designed for the student who needs to master
computational skills such as fractions, decimals, and percents.
The main focus of this class is to help build the foundational
skills required to be successful in Algebra and beyond. This
course meets the PUSD math requirement. Contact your student’s
