Organize Your Search
Applying for
scholarships can be overwhelming, between locating resources, writing
your essay and completing the sometimes lengthy applications. Being just
a little bit organized can really help in the process and actually make
it easier to stay on top of deadlines.
I have hundreds of scholarships that come to me either through direct
sponsor contact or scholarships we have researched. I have to somehow
organize myself so that I better help students with the submission of
these scholarships. So I have a binder and filing system that works well
for me. I am able to easily see when things are due and set deadlines as
needed.
To get you started on your scholarship hunt, I recommend that you get a
binder or set up a filing system that will keep you on top of deadlines.
In this binder, print out a copy of each scholarship you will consider
pursuing that I will send to you through your
Naviance Family Account. Then keep all of your application materials
handy. As you submit your applications, keep copies of your documents
and file them behind each scholarship. You might consider creating tabs
for sections, such as:
• Due Dates
•
Scholarships Submitted
• Letters of
Recommendation Requests
• Transcript
Requests
I have created a
form for your convenience to keep you more
organized. You may consider putting this form in the front of your
binder to help you remember dates. Whatever method you choose to use,
ensure that you use a system that will help you remember deadlines.
