Program, Fundraisers, and Project Descriptions
  • Art's Attack. This is an innovative way to teach art with parent volunteers! Each class has a parent volunteer who attends training sessions. Videos can be checked out of the school library for additional training.
  • Author's Fair. This is a day of festivities which includes and assembly and book signing by an author of children's books. This year's author, Pam Munoz Ryan, will visit on February 7th, 2003. Look for the Book Drive during this week of the event.
  • Book Club. This is a program to enhance our library. Anyone can purchase a book for the library in honor of a child's birthday or any occasion. Come see your name of the bookshelf "Wall of Fame" in the library.
  • Book Fair. Book Fair week is held in the multi-purpose room (MPR) during school hours with an open house one evening. One morning of that week is Donuts with Dad so fathers can visit school and select a new book with their child. This event is scheduled for March 31, 2003 through April 4, 2003.
  • Chess Club. Students in Grade 1-5 can join the chess club, which meets once a week after school. Adult volunteers help with supervision. Chess knowledge is not required and volunteers need not commit weekly.
  • Choir. Children participating in the choir not only learn to sing; they learn basics in theory, choreography, and reading music. Choir is open to all third, fourth, and fifth graders. The choir meets weekly for 1 hour.
  • Directory/Handbook. This is a summer/first few weeks of school project. The Directory & Handbook are combined and advertising is used to help offset the cost. Each family will receive a Directory/Handbook as a gift from the PTA.
  • 5th Grade Culmination. The graduation ceremony for fifth graders is held at the end of the year. Congratulations!
  • 5th Grade Picnic. On the last day of school, the fifth graders have a school picnic. Food, games, and swimming are part of the fun.
  • Fitness. This is a committee that coordinates the walk-to-school days. They promote physical fitness, families spending time together, and raise the awareness about traffic safety.
  • Gift Wrap. This is the main school fundraiser that raises money to support PTA programs such as choir, assemblies, chess club, and other programs. Students sell gift-wrap in September and deliver the products in October.
  • Health and Safety. This is a program that promotes the health and safety in a variety of ways. National Red Ribbon Week is a drug-free movement. Students will receive red ribbons to display their commitment to stay drug free. Safety tips may be included in the newsletter throughout the year, and Hearing & Vision screenings will be held in January or February.
  • Hospitality. This committee takes Turtleback families on the new student tour and mans the snack tables with smiling faces at many school functions. The committee also plans several luncheons for our teachers and staff throughout the school year.
  • Jogathon. This is the second largest fundraising event for school programs. Students collect pledges for donations depending on the number of times a student runs around the track. This event is scheduled for March 7, 2003.
  • Multicultural Food Fair. This event turns the multi-purpose room (MPR) into an international food bazaar. Area restaurants and Turtleback families donate food, and parent volunteers man the booths.
  • Newsletter. Turtle Tales is the PTA newsletter published periodically throughout the year with important information regarding upcoming events.
  • Publicity. This positions consists of taking pictures and sending press releases to local newspapers to inform the community of the happenings at Turtleback.
  • Reflections. This is an arts recognition and achievement program for students from preschool through 12th grade to create and be recognized for original works of art based on the theme. Winner's entry will be displayed at the Poway Performing Arts Center in the spring.
  • Room Parents. Room Parents plan and host classroom parties and activies, and serve as liaison to the PTA to contact paretns for special events. There may be a few meetings throughout the year to assist with coordinating events.
  • Talent / Variety Show. Open to all grades. Think of what you want to do to participate. Every student and teacher is welcome.
  • Turtleback T-Shirts. Turtleback t-shirts are available to purchase throughout the year.
  • Turtleback Trekkers. This is a fitness program designed to motivate students to become fit, burn off excess energy, improve classroom participation, build self-esteem, and make recess a positive experience. Your child can run or walk laps around the track during recess and accumulate totals to win prizes.
  • Yearbook. The yearbook may be purchased at the end of the school year. We encourage families to submit pictures of school events in an envelope marked PTA Yearbook. Give the envelope to your child's teacher or school office. Please do not write on front or back of photographs.
  • Vons eScript. This program is a fundraiser where we receive a "rebate" perscentage from Vons. You register your Vons card and they automatically send us a percentage of your purchases at no cost to you.
