A LITTLE BACKGROUND ON THE PTA

The PTA was founded in 1897 as an advocacy group for children, to build bridges between home and schools.   The purpose of the PTA is:

  • to promote the welfare of the children and youth in home, school, community and place of worship
  • to raise standards of home life
  • to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth
  • to bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth
  • to develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education

PTA was created to better the lives of children!

PTAs focus on what students need to be successful in their learning, including proper nutrition, safety, and healthy environments.   PTA programs should promote:

  • parent education and involvement
  • home and school cooperation
  • children′s well-being
  • community betterment
  • PTA leadership training
