CHARACTER COUNTS AT SHOAL CREEK!

Character is who you are deep inside.  Your character determines how you act......even when noone is watching.

TRUSTWORTHINESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, FAIRNESS, CARING and CITIZENSHIP.  The Six Pillars of Character are ethical values to guide our choices.

In September we focused on TRUSTWORTHINESS.  In October and November we are focusing on RESPECT.

TRUSTWORTHINESS:  Be honest * Don't deceive, cheat or steal *
Be reliable-- do what you say you'll do *  Have the courage to do the right thing *
Build a good reputation * Be loyal-- stand by your family, friends and country.

The foundations of trust lie not only in believing that a person will be honest, truthful and honor his/her word, but also in letting him/her know that you expect him/her to do so.

RESPECT:  Treat others with respect;  follow the Golden Rule *  Be tolerant of
differences *  Use good manners, not bad language *  Be considerate of the feelings
of others *  Don't threaten, hit or hurt anyone  *  Deal peacefully with anger, insults
and disagreements.

The essence of RESPECT is to show solemn regard for the worth of people, including oneself.  The ethical duty is to treat everyone with respect.

National Character Counts Week is October 16-22.  President George W. Bush has said, "During National Character Counts Week, we recognize the importance that good character has played in our history, celebrate the great character exhibited by our citizens, and reaffirm our commitment to promoting the values that will ensure a better future for all."
