Advanced Placement
Biology 3-4
Advanced Placement Biology 3-4 is planned to meet the objectives
of a general biology course on the college level. Topics covered
include the chemical basis of biology, cells, their specialization
and reproduction, energy transformation, heredity and genetics,
the origin of life, the structure and function in higher plants
and in animals, behavior and its basis in heredity and biochemistry,
and ecology. Students who take this class may take the advanced
placement examination in biology. This course may be used
to meet the UC "D" or "F" requirement.

Advanced Placement
Chemistry 3-4
Chemistry 3-4 is an advanced placement course, college freshman
level, which continues the students' study of chemistry with
additional qualitative and quantitative study. There is a
greater reliance and emphasis on quantitative study, lab work,
and the use of electronic equipment to gather data. This course
may be used to meet the UC "D" or "F" requirement.

Biology 1-2
Biology 1-2 is a study of living things and how they relate
to their environment. With the aid of laboratory exercises,
students will learn how organisms perform life functions and
how they interrelate. This course may be used to meet the
UC "D" or "F" requirement. Freshmen who enroll in this class
are carefully selected and expected to pursue advanced science
courses beginning in the tenth grade.

Chemistry 1-2
Chemistry 1-2 is a rigorous, in-depth introduction to the
fundamental principles, concepts, and techniques of chemistry
using a problem-solving approach. It is designed for college-bound
students who have completed a year of college prep science
and mathematics. This course may be used to meet the UC "D"
or "F" requirement.

Honors Biology
1-2
Honors Biology 1-2 is a rigorous, accelerated laboratory science
course which focuses on investigating major biological concepts.
In addition, emphasis will be placed on the study of chemistry,
physics, and statistical analysis as applied to biological
systems, genetics, evolution, ecology and physiological processes
in organisms. The course is open to college-preparatory students
who have demonstrated exceptional ability in science.

Oceanography 1-2
Oceanography 1-2 will cover the basic physical, geological,
chemical, and biological aspects of oceanography. The major
topics will include geomorphology of the ocean floor, marine
sediments, oceanographic instrumentation, chemistry of sea
water, the heat balance in the ocean, sea level changes, surface
currents, deep water circulation, tides, beach and coastal
processes, life in the sea, food cycles, deep scattering layers,
fouling and boring mechanisms, and dangerous marine animals.
This course may be used to meet the UC "D" or "F" requirement.

Physics 1-2
Physics 1-2 is a study of the fundamental concepts in nature.
Physics integrates writing, mathematical, laboratory, and
critical thinking skills. The course emphasizes mechanics,
electricity, and magnetism. Other areas such as heat, light,
astronomy, oceanography, and nuclear physics will also be
covered. Through lab activities students will become familiar
with scientific investigation including observing, organizing,
comparing, relating, communicating, defining a scientific
problem, proposing and testing a hypothesis, analyzing results,
and measuring variables. This course may be used to meet the
UC "D" or "F" requirement.

Zoology 1-2
Zoology 1-2 is a more in-depth study of the animal kingdom.
Emphasis will be on behavior and physical adaptations of animals
in their natural environment. Field work emphasizing their
ecology will be done whenever possible. This course may be
used to meet the UC "D" or "F" requirement.

Advanced
Placement Environmental Science 1-2
AP Environmental Science is a course which will provide
students with the scientific principles, concepts, and
methodologies required to understand the interrelationships
of the natural world. Students will identify and analyze
environment problems. Students will also examine alternative
solutions for resolving and/or preventing these problems.
This course meets the UC/CSU Science requirement.
