Education Course Descriptions
Note: Most special education classes are aligned
to California high school standards for graduation. However,
those classes designated
on the students schedule by “L/...” are not considered
to be UC/CSU college preparatory.
English
L/Basic English 1-8: designed around specific IEP needs and abilities
- prepare students for L/English
L/English 1-2: Freshman English
L/English 3-4: Sophomore English
L/English 5-6: American Literature, generally for Juniors
L/English 7-8: World Literature, generally for Seniors
Math
L/Basic Math 1-8: Designed around specific
IEP needs and abilities – prepare
students for L/Pre-Algebra
L/Pre-Algebra 1-4: Helps students develop sufficient skills for
Algebra 1A / 1B
L/Algebra 1A-1B: First year Algebra. Meets first half of the districts
high school requirement for Algebra
L/Algebra 2A-2B: Second year Algebra. Meets the second half of
the districts high school requirements for Algebra
L/Geometry 1-2: Taken after L/Algebra 2A-2B
Science
L/Geoscience 1-2: Earth and physical science. Meet high school
requirement for two semesters of physical science.
L/Biology 1-2: Life Science. Meets high school requirement for
two semesters of life sciences.
Social Science
L/World History 1-2: Two semesters. Taken sophomore year
L/U.S. History 1-2: Two semesters. Taken junior year.
L/Strategies for Civics / Economics: An elective class to support
students in general education civics and economics. Taken senior
year.
Other
L/Health: Meets the requirement for one semester of health. Generally
taken freshman or sophomore year.
