The Latest Scoop!

DISCOVER THE MAGIC… ParTicipAte!
By Kimberly Wilkins, PTA President

Rev. Jesse L. Jackson once wrote, “A school system without parents at its foundation is just like a bucket with a hole in it.”  Realizing our children’s educational success depends on developing a strong, collaborative relationship between our students, staff, parents, and community, the Park Village PTA opened its doors simultaneously with our school in 1994.  Since our inception, our mission has remained the same:  To support our children’s educational experience by providing and training volunteers, planning and implementing fun and educational events, developing and facilitating parent/staff communication, and funding programs that will ensure our Penguins realize their potential.

Parental involvement is the cornerstone of our PTA.  Involved, caring and committed parents not only make for a successful school, but also for a successful student!  While we all lead very busy lives, and at times feel we are really just taxi cab drivers in disguise, I encourage each of you to take a starring role in your child’s education.  Become involved, whether it’s volunteering in your child’s classroom or at one of our PTA events or fundraisers, attending a field trip, having lunch with your child during Lunch with Dads, or even grading papers at home for your child’s teacher.
Your volunteering efforts, no matter how big or small, will make a positive impact on your child’s educational experience at Park Village.

I believe Dr. Seuss said it best -“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better.  It’s not.”  As we embark on another school year, let’s continue to care an awful lot about our children and become involved – ParTicipAte!

Nothing but Thanks! or Asante! in Swahili
(by Charity Toetter)
Not only was it an exciting privilege, it was also very gratifying to serve our students, families, and teachers at this year's fall Book Fair Safari. I'd like to acknowledge those for whose help I am truly thankful: our PTA President, Kim Wilkins,  PTA Executive Vice President, Kim Latta, and Denise Hoover for their support and encouragement, the D.A.D.S. Group, Valinda Lee for contributing the most volunteer hours (13), Mr. Cecena, Marie Adams, and Mr. Armin, my friend Ray Ramage from Horizon Christian Fellowship for supplying the tables, Clifford the Big Red Dog for his appearance Friday night, and over 40 volunteers that gave their time willingly.
A special thank you to the families who generously contributed books and gift certificates to our wonderful teachers!!  You may ask, is all the time and effort required to chair a school event worth it?  In my opinion...ABSOLUTELY!  See you at our spring book fair!
