The Scholastic Book Fair Has Ended, but the Reading Journey Continues!
By Charity Toetter and Yanying Auyeung - Book Fair Chairs
The Scholastic Destination Book Fair journey has come to an end for now, but the reading journey continues! We close out another successful Fall Book Fairpresented by the PTA to benefit our school and to get books, both classic and current, into the hands of our students to nurture a love for reading. Many partners make a successful book fair and we'd like to say thank you to:
  • All Park Village parents, for understanding the importance and necessity of having reading material at home and at school and allowing their children to select and buy books at the book fair!
  • All Park Village teachers and staff for creating excitement and anticipation for the book fair and taking the time to bring their students to the book fair--Teachers-We love you!
  • All Park Village students--you are the reason for the book fair season and why we do what we do--it's all for you!
  • And especially, much gratitude to each and every volunteer that gave their time!!  Thank you!!  We can not have a book fair without you!!
See you in Spring 2010 as more reading adventures await!
A Reminder to Adopt-A-Family for the Holidays!
Alex Reed, Community Concerns Chair
The November 13th deadline to Adopt-A-Family for the holidays is quickly approaching!  Thank you to those who have already pledged to help.  Your generosity during this economically challenging time is greatly appreciated.  However, we still need more help.  Here’s how the program works:  Families who are experiencing true economic difficulties are identified by various authorities around PUSD.  Each family submits a wish list.  In the past, the most requested items for children were shoes and other articles of clothing.

The Adopt-A-Family program began 9 years ago when it was determined that there are families within PUSD, who finds themselves, for various reasons, unable to provide gifts for their families during the holiday season.

Last year, the program was able to provide 350 PUSD families with grocery gift cards, new clothing and other holiday wishes.  Park Village alone was able to adopt 20 of those families!  If your family, classroom, workplace, or organization (Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Bunco group, book club, etc.) would like to adopt a family, please consider helping us by providing basic items and modest gifts for our PUSD families. If you can’t adopt an entire family, you can still help by adopting a member of one of the families.

Donations are of course tax deductible.  For monetary donations, checks can be made payable to Palomar Council PTA; the full amount of the donation will be provided to the families in need.  For more information, or if you can help, please contact Alex Reed, Community Concerns Chair at AYL168@yahoo.com or 901-4212.

DADS Corner
Another Successful Movie Night
Thanks to all the DADS who helped make Movie Night the most successful ever! You guys served 700 hot dogs, 2,500 drinks, and over 3,000 bags of popcorn. Everyone had a great time on both sides of the serving table. Special thanks go out to Victor Chan for bringing 3 different types of chili and Ari Jahanian for setting up the movie.

DADS "Repaint the Fence" Fundraiser
The DADS group kicked off their "Repaint the Fence" fundraiser at Movie Night, and we raised over $350! Be sure to look for the DADS donation jar at upcoming events to help cover the costs associated with repainting all the black metal fencing around the school campus. Painting will begin sometime in December in specific locations around the campus, with the goal of repainting all areas by the end of the year. Look for updates, times, and volunteer requests in future Flash articles. Thanks for your generous donations!
